Should I even try?
Thinking about going to the track this spring as soon as Milan opens in early April. Ill have some 20 x 11 rims on the back finally with some 305/35/20 nitto NT555R's. It will be my first time EVER at the track racing.
Mods in sig.... Am I guaranteed to break an axle? I dont plan on doing much more to the car in the next few months becuase I simply can not afford to do much more right now. I need to get this car payed off and save money for more important stuff right now blah blah blah. Axles for this car are outrageous but I would still like to track it this spring and get some kind of a baseline before I eventually do gears, H/C etc I do not plan on doing a 5k clutch dump or anything....do you guys who have experience think I would be stupid to try the car at the track without axles? Should I maybe throw on some LCA's before I go? I really dont want to break an axle at the track and have to be towed an hour back home thanks, Troy |

Just don't dump the clutch and you should be fine.

If you are that worried about it, I'd start by replacing the bushings on the rear end.

Of course you should try.. These are muscle car and are made for drag racing. Maybe you should run your p-zeros for a few passes, and then jump to your drag radials. You enjoy them more.

555R's hook better on the street than the track for most people, don't launch off the rev limiter you should be fine.

I would at least replace the trailing arms, it helps alot with the wheel hop. Wheel hop is what kills the axles. I just happen to have a set of BMR trailing arms that I just pulled off of mine and am only about 40 mins East of Jackson if your interested in them.

Black GT- Most say if you have them at around 25 psi and do a really good burnout they hook pretty good.
I didnt plan on dumping the clutch. I can do a pretty decent launch on the street with the p-zero's right now...ill probably start with the same technique (hold at 3k and then push the gas down steadily while steadily releasing the clutch) sterling- I thought about doing the bushings as well....but it is a very involved installation and Ill probably just do that when I am doing the axles or gears etc. Just thinking I should put on some LCA's to help with wheel hop before I go... |

I know you can buy them as a set, not sure if just the bushings you can swap out. Wouldn't hurt to give them a call. I think the ones with the upgraded bushing are around $250.00 as opposed to $140 for the poly bushing.

If I decide to buy them I'll send you a PM. If you still have them I'll probably be interested. Still undecided right now... |

I broke a axle down there before I installed mine, it all in the way you launch and the sense to get out of it if it starts wheel hopping. I didn't get out of it and snapped it at the CV joint. Have fun!

I say go for it, you could break something on the street anytime. And you don't have to upgrade if something breaks, just buy another stock axle until you get more serious/have the money for the stronger axles. Going to the track is a lot of fun and worth whatever risk there is of breaking something.

i was told by a sponsor on this forum that you really dont need to worry about axle upgrade until you're putting out 600+ rwhp. im sure there are circumstances where they have broken with less rwhp, but id think you otta be good considering what you're putting out.
