Subwoofer install on stock stereo

I have a powered subwoofer from an old car and since it's almost brand new, I figured I'd try to install it in my camaro. Does anyone know if it's possible to do that with just the stock stereo? I wasn't sure if there were any pre-outs to plug into and I didn't want to pull the stereo out just to look at the back. Any info would be great. Thanks!

If you have the Boston Acoustics sound system, your amp is located in the trunk. You can connect a LOC (line out converter) for your subwoofer input from the amp. Then you basically need to power & ground it.

If you have the non-BA system, connect the line out converter to a speaker in the rear deck. Then power & ground the powered sub.

It isn't too complicated.

I have the non BA system so I guess I'd go that route. Cool. The sub has been in my garage for almost a year so I'm glad it won't go to waste. Thanks!

Ecko04,
it sounds simple, but just to clarify if possible. I have the red and white "line in" on the amp. So I just need to plug into there then splice that line into one of the lines going into one of the rear speakers and after running my power line and grounding it, I'm good to go? Sorry for the extra question, I've done a lot of speakers and head units before but never with an amp involved. The closest thing was one of those sound boosting equalizers back in the 80's . Thanks.

I did the BA sub mod with some old RCA's why would you need a converter or special harness? Mine has been flawless.

If you're running anything other than a strictly class D amp, you'll need more than just the RCA mod. My amp is a class bd and I get a thump every time the amp turns off. I purchased an AudioControl LC6i that I plan on placing between my radio and BA amp.

Please HELP!

I am having a little trouble.. I want to hook up my sub and amp to my factory radio (non BA system). So I have some Q's..

1. Do I need to pull the whole head unit out for the RA wire? (wire that makes amp turn on when radio is turned on)
2. What is the best way to run the power cord for the amp? (from battery to trunk)
3. What all would I need to accomplish this?

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks.

My other thread has more info in it, but what I've found so far is to run a remote wire from the amp to the cigarette lighter so the amp will turn off when the car is off. The power line is easy since the battery is in the trunk anyway, just need to have a fuse in it so you don't fry the amp. I'm getting a line out converter to tap into the rear speakers to go to the amp. I'm not sure if the head unit has RCA outputs and I don't feel like pulling it out to check. I'm going to look into an amp kit which should have everything I need to get it done. Everyone's been helpful so far which is good since I've never done an amp before. Good luck!
