Production 2008 Challenger (56k warning)

2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8

OVERVIEW

The Ultimate Modern American Muscle Coupe

All-New 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8®

Iconic Dodge muscle car returns after a 35-year absence

Design stays true to Challenger heritage while delivering a host of modern amenities and "race inspired, street legal" SRT DNA

Powered by a 6.1-liter HEMI® V-8 engine that produces 425 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque

Each 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 features limited-edition, numbered dash plaque

The return of the iconic Dodge Challenger brings what pony car fanatics crave: ground shaking performance, unmistakable design cues reminiscent of the original Challenger, world-class ride and handling characteristics and benchmark braking. On top of that it features a wide variety of modern amenities and technology designed to delight a new generation of driving enthusiasts.

"The all-new Dodge Challenger SRT8 is engineered to give customers everything they want in a modern muscle machine," said Mike Accavitti, Director – Dodge Brand and SRT Global Marketing, Chrysler LLC. "The new version of Dodge's American classic boasts tire-smoking performance and head-turning design while offering a wide array of state-of-the-art technology, such as GPS navigation, 'Keyless Go' entry, a MyGIG™ infotainment system and UConnect hands-free communication."

Developed by Chrysler's in-house performance engineering organization, the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 was engineered with a focus on the five pillars of every SRT vehicle: bold exterior design that resonates with the brand image, a race-inspired interior, world-class ride and handling across a dynamic range, a standout powertrain and benchmark braking.

Dodge will offer the limited-edition 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 in three colors: HEMI® Orange, Bright Silver Metallic and Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat. Each two-door, rear-wheel-drive coupe will be produced with a numbered dash plaque, carbon fiberlike hood stripes and will be powered by SRT's 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine that boasts 425 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque.

With a U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $37,995 (including $675 destination), the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 arrives in Dodge showrooms this spring.

The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 vehicles will be manufactured at Chrysler's Brampton, Ontario, Canada assembly plant.

Performance targets for the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 include a 0–60 mph time in the low 4.9-seconds, 0–100–0 mph in less than 17 seconds, a ¼-mile elapsed time of 13.3 seconds, 60–0 mph braking distance of approximately 100 feet, and a skid pad performance of 0.88 g.

If the Challenger is going to weight over 4000 pounds and it the same size as the Camaro, how is the camaro going to weight much less?
Ok the Hemi 6.1 is an Iron Block and the Camaro will be aluminum
that would shave a few hundred pounds, but I can't see the camaro comming in under 3700.

All I've got to say is I hope Chevy has a couple aces in their back pockets!!! It can still produce those numbers, 4000 lbs or not.

You can now "build" you're Challenger on Dodge's site...Wow.....this really is for real.

And the Challenger is MUCH bigger than the Camaro concept (and it looks like they shrunk the Production car length-wise), not to mention the Challenger is "fatter". But, still...I have no idea HOW the Challenger made it this big.
Whatever, Camaro is closer to the Mustang's size at any rate, so a wieght similar to it would be expected moreso than that of the Challenger.

Specs:.................................. Camaro...................Challenger............... ...Mustang

Width..................................... 79.6.........................75.7....................... 73.9

Height..................................... 53 ...........................57 ..........................54.5

Length.................................. 186.2....................... 197.7 .......................187.6

Weight (with Auto):.................. ??.......................... 4140lbs...................... 3500

I think the weight difference between the Camaro and the Mustang will be in the engine, since the specs are close in size the frame weight should be close the 6.0 or 5.7 will weight a little more than the 4.6, thats where the weight difference will be.

Ok, I have to admit, the new Challenger, is an absolutly gorgeous car. I love the way it came out. the only thin i dont like is the fact that the dash is nearly identical to the Charger, but that I can live with. I love muscle cars, Ford, Chevy, or Dodge, but I'd still take a Camaro over all of them! Cudos to Dodge on creating an awesome looking car (despite the fact that its kinda on the large side).

Am I the only one that absolutely does not like anything about the Challenger? The exterior is a lame re-hash of yesterday and the interior is as uninspired as they come. It's performance isn't even that impressive. Their top dog SRT-8 looks to have similar stats to the base Mustang GT yet costs what? $10k more without any dealer markup? Thanks but I'll stick to the Camaro.

Imagine similar HP numbers to the Challenger with the weight of the Mustang and an IRS? Wow, it's going to smoke both of them without a doubt.

I liked the Concept Challenger, but I love the production model... I like what they did with the tail lights, I love the lines and I don't really see how the production car is any more a rehash of the original Challenger than the new Camaro will be of the '69 Camaro... and I even like the interior... they kept it simple and functional... there is room for improvement and they will probably make those improvements... but they beat the Camaro to production by almost a year, and that was their goal.

as I've said before, I think I'll pick up a 2010 Challenger sometime in 2012... it would make a great addition to our little fleet of cars

I don't know if beating the Camaro to production by a year is much of an advantage, considering they're only making 6000 of them this year with ridiculous mark ups. Looks like GM's decision to go to production in '09 doesn't seem as lame as it did 2 years ago. They have nothing to worry about and neither does Ford. But the Challenger has to be very worried when the Camaro and updated Mustang come to the market siginificantly cheaper and faster than the Challenger. Chrysler is tied long term to the heavy sedan chassis they built the Challenger off of. It will finish a distant 3rd in every category to the Camaro and 'stang.
