the notchy 3rd gear issue

I know a lot of people are complaining about notchy shifting in their tremec t6060's. (vettes, mustangs, and dodge's too) I have the same issue with my 2011 ss. It has done this since the day I brought it home. I drained my stock fluid and replaced it with mobil 1 synthetic atf. I can't say that it is any better or worse. It feels the same to me. I have been reserching this for a while, and it seems like the t56's also had this problem. I just wanted to bring up the point that I installed a richmond 6 speed in my 69 nova and it was notchy going into 3rd gear also. I dialed in the bell housing well within spec, so everything should have been installed 100% correctly. Do you think this is just a "6 speed thing?"

I also grind from 2-3 30% of the time even after changing to Mobil 1 syn ATF. It does it when it's cold and up to full op temp but between its smooth as butter. Also, I can tell when it is and is not going to grind when I'm leaving 2nd because it will grind slightly leaving 2nd before going into 3rd. If it's smooth leaving 2nd, smooth into 3rd.

Mine is also notchy going into 3rd. The weird thing is it doesn't do it ALL the time, sometimes it goes in smooth but most often it feels like theres a little knuckle in there about 1//2 way into third. I would love to see if anyone knows why this happens....

Just put amsoil torque drive in yesterday and all the problems are gone I really can't believe it, shifts like butter at any temp/rpm. I posted this in a couple other threads too to let everyone know what worked for me, just seemed like no one was trying the torque drive, just Mobil and Royalpurple. I had a rough feel/engagment in my clutch too and that's even gone. I picked it up for 37bucks plus tax from a local amsoil dealer. Hope the fix isn't short lived.

Update! I actually had a chance with a break in the weather to really give the new transmission a good shaking out! I must say I'm pleased so far! 2nd gear is smooth as silk and 3rd, although notchy when cold, seems to be acceptable after up to temp, not perfect though! I'm hoping it will only get better as I break it in and the weather warms up! Thank you GM for stepping up and replacing my trans!

Mine did this from the start. Replaced fluid with RP tranny fluid. Still does it, however when the fluid warms up the notch is gone.

Mine grinds bad most of the time but 3 Chevy dealers later they all say that they dont find anything wrong. The notchy shifting with griding is the only thing that I hate about my car. It's so bad that it makes me think about getting rid of the car because it takes the fun out of driving it when you're grinding gears all the time. Just drove a friends Mazda Speed 3 and it has a super short throw, no notchiness, and is supper supper smooth shifting. I could throw that thing in any gear I wanted at any time without thought or effort, wish I could say the same about my car. It's agrivating that Mazda can have a great shifting 6speed but GM cant.

Sorry, rant over

Does yours grind more when it's cold? Mine is really bad and grinds 100% of the time when cold, but intermittent when warm. I'm supposed to see the dealer for the second time Monday morning just to confirm the problem and let the service manager see it. I'm driving that sucker up there Sunday night, leaving it, and meeting them as soon as they open to be sure the car is cold enough that the problem will be present on the test drive. Also helps to call the hotline and talk to a GM Service Rep. They'll get you a service number and follow up with you and the dealership to make sure everything's straight. I definitely would have gotten the cold shoulder if I didn't do that first.

It is worse when cold so every time I dropped it off the night before so it would be cold in the morning for them. I guess the next step is call GM.

I made a thread about this earlier:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97186

From my experience, I took it to the dealer and had them check it while it was in for stripes, and said it was operating as designed, but the car wasn't fully broken in yet and to give it a few more miles, and if it still did it then to bring it in.
