Top of 1st gear...

Does anyone else notice a bit of a lull between 4,000 and 6,000 RPM? Not like the engine revolutions aren't rapidly climbing, because they are, but the car's acceleration seems to lull in 1st in this range. Then comes 2nd and anywhere between 3,000 and 6,000 accelerates rapidly as you would expect.

So I'm wondering, would it be faster in say a 1/4 mile run to shift to second between 4,000 and 5,000 leaving more room for 2nd gear to pull?

Obviously never done a timed run in the SS, just curious if others have noticed this.

EDIT: Should have prefaced LS3, M6 transmission.

Are you sure its not traction control kicking in?

That's what I was thinking too. Maybe it's retarding the timing a bit to keep from spinning.

That's what I thought. Is there a flashing light that says when TCS is retarding timing? I can't remember.

Maybe the cars reading some knock and pulling timing. Have to log it to find out.

Yeah, something seems off. My car pulls like mad from 3,500rpms-5,500rpms in every gear.

My car does the same thing with TC on depending on the conditions.

However it pulls like a train between 3000 and 5000. Need a reset button for my internal organs

The "acceleration" or pulling you describe would be torque. I noticed that torque on the LS3 drops off at about 4500 -5000 rpm. Right around that RPM range the motor seems to harmonize and run smoother as well.

This is true for any motor..Even though the HP keeps increasing with more PRM, the torque falls off at a certain point thus causing the car to feel as if its not accelerating as hard.

The problem is that he says it feels fine in 2nd but not in 1st. The engine should be making the same power and torque at WOT at 5000 RPM regardless of the gear, unless there is some sort of control mechanism kicking in.

I have an LS3 and I've never noticed any lag or drop off anywhere no matter the rpm until the limiter kicks in. I agree, this car should come with a driver internal reset button, or at least a permagrin wiper. This car is sick fast and quick.

Thanks for all the replies. I think this statement above makes the most sense. The torque "feel" levels off as you said then when I drop it into second and the RPM's drop to 4k or whatever the "torque feel" comes back in. I'll try with TC off and see if that makes a difference but I'm not getting any indicators or warnings on the dash.
