newbie with a decision to make

New to the group here. I am doing my homework towards purchase of a camaro in the next month or two. I have an appointment to drive a mustang tomorrow, simply in the name of due diligence, as I am about 99.9% set on the camaro.

I know exactly what I want, 2lt rs in crystal red with auto trans and beige or gray leather (open to opinions on the interior but black is just too hot in south texas).

The decision is this: I found a 2011 with exactly the options and low miles. Carfax checks out and maintenance records show it was well maintained. I think I can save about $4grand.

Should I go ahead and wait a month or two for the 2012 (probably have to factory order) or go for the 2011?

Personally I would cancel the mustang appointment and go for a test ride in a camaro, as you say you are almost certain that is the car you want then you may as well do your due diligence by driving a few different models around to see which one you like the best. And remember different colors handle differently.

Good luck, let us know when you purchase.

Well IMO the 2012 interior is ugly and there is a $1500 cash incentive on the 2011's plus dealers are eager to move them so you have more wiggle room when talking $$. Its all in want your looking for. Make sure you really dont want a SS. Lots are upgrading after buying a LT, myself included.

I know this is a sore subject, but I still can't get over the steering wheel and the gauges.

I think the 2012 interior, except for the steering wheel, is hands down better than any new Camaro to date...............................

Yes but its true. When I upgrades to a SS, I considered '12 until my dealer let me sit in one. That wheel was awful! Plus with the incentives, the '11 was the way to go. Still bought it brand new.

Depends - if you are financing the car then figure out the actual payment difference first. You can get lower rates on new cars, plus the dealer incentives will only apply to new cars - those things may make up a lot of the price difference. If the payment is about the same, I'd buy new. If you aren't financing then I'd probably go ahead and buy the used one now.

Buy what you want, half the people who answer you here are not going to answer your specific question but will instead tell you you should buy the V8 or the manual or whatever.

I love the 11's, and I thank Chevy for the changes since this will keep me happy and current with mine. Until I see the ZL1 roll up at my dealership that is.

With a 90 mile commute each day I think a v6 is the way to go. Also why I am going auto. Manual transmission not much fun in traffic.

I will definitely bargain for an excellent price. Dealer has 27990 on it and I think I can get 26500

I get the same financing from the credit union whether a new or late model used. I may have to chat with the dealers about incentives, do they apply to factory orders?

Go do out

Go drive the stang you have nothing to lose. Your money, choose wisely.I am sure if you drive both you will come back to the camaro.Every time you look at it,every time you take her down the road and crank up that old radio she will put a smile on your face. Pure enjoyment even when your washing it, changing the oil, waxing it or just opening the garage door to take a peek at her to make sure she is ok.Yes that is how bad it is.Come join the cult and you will see what I mean.I guarantee it.

Glad to know I am not the only one who thought the interior was butt ugly

Personally I'd go with the 2011, but there are things to consider.
Do you want the new LFX engine? It has 323hp vs the 312hp in the 2011's LLT engine.
You can't add headers to the LFX since the exhaust manifold is part of the head on that engine.
Do you want the Heads-up and reverse Camera?
A lot of the aftermarket stuff isn't available yet for the LFX, but there is a lot of stuff out for the LLT now.
Check them both out and see which you like better.
