As long as it doesn't effect the price of a manual - sure, why not? However, I'll take mine with both feet please.

I agree, I don't think it will be as common as the typical RS and SS we see everywhere these days. I don't see too many GT500's compared to the regular Mustang. Not everyone will be able to afford it. Im not sure if I will be able to afford it myself. Thus resulting in fewer ZL1's on the roadways.

I predict no auto for the ZL1. I think Chevrolet wants to release a no nonsense brute for the hardcore Only. It should mirror the GT 500 in that respect and surpass it in performance (which it will) It could even be a marketing angle. "The ZL1 makes babies cry, puppies pee, and sets off car alarms at a cruising idle, Oh yeah- and did I mention it only comes in stick?!" Or "The New ZL1 can be your grocery getter...if you like broken eggs". First year ZL1s no. Later years have AT? maybe. Hey GM! Who would you rather chafe cowboys who won't drink whisky in a saloon that serves rootbeer. Or rootbeer drinkers? In a few years cars like this won't be possible. History is watching! Make an "Mythical, unfriendly Camaro ZL1"

So I guess America is still an automatic car country...

Personally I'd never choose an automatic in such a car. I already hated the fact that I had to buy the Range with an automatic as no other options available...

I personally would not buy an auto unless it is able to get past the gas guzzler tax. The M6 has at best a very small chance of getting by without the tax and the automatic virtually no chance of getting by without having the tax. The auto will be a $1200.00 option and the gas guzzler tax another $1200.00. Too much of a penalty for the auto. Right now I am just crossing my fingers that the ZL1 M6 will not have the gas guzzler penalty.

Do you know something we don't?

I don't really think $50,000 is really all the expensive for a car these days.
Many people spent more on SUV's and Trucks. If they made automatics there would no doubt be a lot more of them around. (Unless GM limited production to keep them rare)

That EPS may be the saving grace from the gas guzzler. I'm not saying I'd necessarily be disappointed in the big "technology" push from GM if ZL1 doesn't manage to eek by the GG tax, like the Shelby does, but that wouldn't look too good, IMO. However, it takes gas to make power, and it ZL1 delievers the power and performance, I won't think twice.

Yes but if someone is willing to pay the extra 2400.00 they should be able to have the automatic

I would like too..I love manuals, but I would not be able to convince the wife to trade up without an auto. She drives my SS once in a blue moon..

No...I'm just assuming an MSRP of a little less than $50,000. I wish I was in a situation to feel the same about vehicle prices as you!

According to NADA, in 2008 the average new vehicle price was around ~$28,000...so while there are many cars and SUVs that sticker for more...not everyone is rolling around in a loaded-to-the-gills $60,000 Tahoe.

There is a market size for the sporty-coupe segment...and there is a market within this market for extremely-high-performance sporty-coupes...and it is small. The sales "gained" by the offering of an automatic would probably be in the thousands...but I really don't consider than enough to worry about wide-spread ZL1s.....
