will curb weight change your buying decision?
seems the curb weight of the camaro is going to be a fair bit above what many of us had hoped. all I have seen from GM is under 4,000 lbs. will curb weight affect your decision to buy a camaro? I was interested in a 09 camaro but since hearing that the curb weight will most likly be over 3750 lbs I have changed my mind and will most likly be purchasing a 02-04 Z05 corvette. with just minor boltons I will still be faster than a 500hp camaro if the curb weight ends up 700-800 lbs over that of the vette. If only they could keep it in the 3600 range but it isn't looking likly

Nobody has said anything official about curb weight, yet... Anyways, Curb wieght doesn't much matter, to me. I'll still be getting my Camaro. But if it's a 4100 lb. Pig, like a certain other car...I won't be at all happy for a while.... |

Yeah you can't say "all I have seen from GM is under 4,000 lbs." without showing us where you saw it.

I have to echo Dragon on this one. Curb weight is a significant point for me, but I'm not sure at what point I wouldn't buy one. It will all depend on a lot of things. If it had the same curb weight was the Challenger (God forbid) I would seriously have to look at alternatives. The fuel issue doesn't bother me much, as I won't be driving very many miles, but the acceleration and handling are a different story. I've seen both ends of the spectrum. I own a 1970 Olds Cutlass sedan (4000+ lbs) and a Cobalt (just under 3000 lbs) and as much as I love my Olds, I just love the way the Cobalt's light weight lets me just really zip around. Sure the Cutlass's weight and power are great for blasting down a long straight empty street, but the Cobalt is just great for navigating through heavy traffic to get to work on time. I'm still hoping we see something south of 3700 lbs. My idea is to make the Z28 a performance package with minor engine mods, suspension tuning, coolers, sports seats, and among other things, weight reductions.

Yeah it seems that all of the sudden some people are joining the site and trying to make false accusations about the Camaro. Sure it won't be a 3000 lb. car, but I doubt it will be 4000 too. If so, then I know it's not going to be enough to make me go buy a Challenger or spend 15,000 more on a stock Corvette. When anyone can make a few engine mods to make it faster than a new stock Corvette for a few thousand.

Weight does not play a role for me. It will still have state of the art safety, engine goodies, interior goodies, etc.
Now, if it got up to 5,000 lbs, yeah, I'd have to walk away (only because I know gas mileage is going to go down). A lil' extra weight has no difference for me. |

I'm thinking that it will be close to 3750 for the base V8. That is fine with me because I look at weight through power to weight ratios. We know it will handle fine because of the 4000 lbs G8 GT (and related cars). So I'm not too worried.
Also, where do you guys get the impression that he has bad info? Its been said that the Camaro will be under 4000 lbs and we here at camaro5 keep saying that it will be 3750 lbs (+/- 2%). Hearing that it is likely to be over that weight isn't out of the question, afterall it could be 3751 lbs for all we know.

The actual weight statistic doesn't mean much to me. Its affect on other aspects of the car are more important, such as the handling, fuel economy, acceleration, etc. How the weight affects driving characteristics is something I won't know until I actually test drive one, as a few hundred pounds difference between cars in a class is something that can be compensated for with suspension, balancing, and engineering tricks.
As long as the weight is comparable to what's expected in the class, I don't forsee any problems. |

I'm not really worried. I definitely don't want the new Camaro to "feel" heavy...but again, I'm not worried. Like Tag said...if it comes in a 5000 lbs. then we might have an issue, but we know that would never happen. I feel comfortable saying "never" especially because of the new CAFE standards...HP numbers will most likely start going down later...and the vehicles are going to be getting lighter. Either way, I'm just not worried about it! The only thing that could potentially keep me out of a new Camaro is it's price! And I'm trying to keep the faith as far as the price is concerned too! But price is my only real buying constraint.
