Custom Coil Pack Brackets

SOOOOO one of my goals (and may others as well) has been to reduce the sheer mass of the Camaro. Doing this (like nathans legendary thread) generally leads into thinking outside the box.

So today I present the final rendition of my coil pack brackets.

The Factory OEM coil pack brackets that mount to the valve covers are stamped steel and weigh 1.5 lbs each for a total of 3lbs bolted to the motor.

My goals for this part were to...
  • Reduce Weight
  • Retain the factory wireing harness
  • Retain the factory spark plug wires

So I present the new brackets!

These are aluminum and weight 0.45 lbs each for a total of 0.90lbs for a loss of 2.1lbs off the front of the car. It is possible for me to do them in carbon fiber but the cost to weight isn't as good (carbon fiber is going to be about 0.1 to 0.15 lbs different).

Without the packs mounted -

With the packs mounted -

Nice work. Hard to tell if the amout of work involved was worth the weigh savings. But nice job none the less.

Just a fyi, if you go with the holley ls value covers that i bought you dont need brackets as they attach to the value cover itself.. Plus i think (not weight tested) that the holley covers are less weight...

I like your brackets none the less...

They come in polished, natural or black krinkle pc. I have the black ones, the breather vent is also larger in the vc for boosted apps & catch cans. I'll find a link....

Fit very well and look great. See my garage for a larger pic than my sig.

Lots of places carry them.

I agree very nice covers!

That said... these where ... how shall I say it, half the price of the covers...
