So a rear facing car seat would be a no-no since it is turned off by passenger weight and does not have a switch to turn it off?

No, you can not turn it off. As stated above, it is determined by the weight in the seat, which has matt in the cushion to sense the weight of a passenger.

So in a sense, it is off unless you have a passenger in the seat.

I read that wrong. The AB is disabled unless a passenger of X weight is in the seat. Does anyone know what X is?

I don't know for sure, because I think it varies car -to- car given the different deployments of the bag. I think I remember hearing that it's around 70 lbs, though. Small children will not activate it.

I guess the air bag deploys from the side of the seat as there is an “air bag” tag there.

What happens if you want to put a seat cover on to protect your orange leather seats from your dirty work cloths?

Yeah, my g/f can't get the bag to be active either.

If she gets to the point where it stays on....she is GONE!!!!!

I think you have to be 130 lbs because my boss sitting over there (female) it stays on, and she is 130ish.

Actually, depending on the state you live in car seats of any kind may be illegal in the front seat of a vehicle if I remember correctly.
