What i wouldn't mind for the HU

I have herd lots of talk about the head unit going into this car, how some love it, some dont, some what to swap a new one in ect, and a valid point was brought up, head units, in more recent times, have been styled in such a way that they are now an integral part of the interior, like the HU on the camaro is so distinct that i cant imagine what a regular aftermarket stereo would look like in there.

Now i do plan on having an awesome sound system in my camaro, and what i really wouldn't mind at all, is if GM just did 2, possibly 3 things with this HU

1. Focus on great sound quality, leave power levels for the premium sound package that would prolly have an "external" amp somewhere in the car. The sound that comes outta the stock HU must be up to par with all but the best of the best out there. If i can get a 130 buck HU that sounds noticeably better, then the HU is not good enough

2. and this is the big one. PRE-OUTS! 3 of them, front, rear, and sub. This way i can have my massive amps in the trunk, and i dont have to have a new HU

3. and ipod hookup, now i realize this prolly wont happen, but at least an AUX in jack on the HU would be enough for me

if i could get these things, then i wont have to sacrifice the interior flow just to satisfy my audio needs

1. I completely agree, but if you want quality, GM is not the best HU makers out there. I wouldn't put GM on par with JL.

2. This comes with a new head unit. Since Chevy won't likely be installing a standard DIN unit, I recommend this integrated JL system. This will give JL quality with all the benefits of an aftermarket unit, including pre-outs, while staying integrated. That means no one will see it and jack it out of your car.

3. All companies are trying to integrate MP3 tech into their cars. Whether that be with MP3 CDs or players, I'm sure the Camaro will have something. After all, they've got to stay competitive. It might be an option and not standard, but I'm sure Chevrolet will have something that will stay up with the competition.

Heard a while back that there is supposed to be a jack installed in the HU for IPOD. What I'm more concerned about is an SD card slot for a couple thousand songs which will do away w/ CD's in the car completely.

Like the JL link. Hadn't heard of that clarity integrated system before. I could see using that if the HU was a peice of crap. The 4th Gen sound system is actually pretty good. I just put some bass blockers in all the mids/highs and added the amp for the subs. Sounds freakin great.

Tbh, I hold JL as kind of second tier. Alpine, Blaupunkt and Kenwood are T1, with JL and Pioneer slightly behind them. I have no idea about the HU but I don't think they'd put something in a car that has absolutely no way to be changed/upgraded without complete custom fab work.

1. I think the sound quality will be "Good." I might go so far as to say great, because from mulitiple places, it's been whispered that there will be a 'new' audio system in there. (Brand diff from anything GM has used thus far.)

2. Can't say much about that, as I'm more interested in the sound from under the hood.:p

3. The Cobalt comes standard with an AUX jack...so I'm pretty confident we'll see at least get that. Unless it gets a new, unknown system - then it's a wild card.

Rockford Fosgate also has a signal processor for the integrated radios that are becoming standard in the new cars. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...n_US&p_status=

Actually, I think the only car that the AUX jack isn't standard on is the Aveo5 (and it's optional on the LS)

Speakers...as long as it's at least at the same level as on my dad's new Prius (forgive the poor man, he is getting old), and I think they'll be better then that. I'm used to riding around in the Saab though and those speakers have begun sounding reeeeaaaalllllyyyy weird for some reason. When I have some excess money I'm going to put that into a professional audio shop and let them have a look at what the hell is going on. But anyway, after listening that for a few weeks the speakers on the Prius sounded fantastic.

Otherwise I don't care that much. Speakers front and back are pretty much standard these days, and if I get a suttle AUX in so I can input my MP3 player I'm happy with that.

Haven't herd of that before, but even with any advanced singnal processing capabilities it has, its still basically a line level converter, albeit with some nice quality improving features. But GM could save a lot of people a lot of money and grief by including a set of pre outs. It cant cost a lot more to include an amp bypass circuit in a HU, and if they do, at least we can buy our amps and subs and such and try them out with the stock HU before we take the plunge and get aftermarket

Either Boston or JL speakers. Don't care what the HU is since I will be hooking up an external amp or two on it anyways. But, I agree...it would be nice if GM could add a few preamp out puts on them...
1. sub woofer
2. fronts
3. rears

That would be brilliant if they could do that.

you're kidding me, right? you think that Alpine and Blaupunkt are better than JL Audio? you do know that this is not the '90s anymore, right?
