Fan Rattle

I've noticed that when I set the fan speed to "II" it sounds almost like the fan bearings are going bad and the fan is teetering on the shaft, which causes a plastic rattling sound. It does this no matter what type of air I'm circulating in the car (heat/AC/vent) but is specific to the setting where the air is forced through the main dashboard and the vents by your feet.

Has anyone else had this issue with a 2011 model?

Thanks.

A fairly common problem with the 2010's. My blower fan was supposed to get replace today but the new one was damaged on delivery.

This thread has some history on the problem:

Jeff,

No. I haven't yet. The issue that I see in the forums deals with a chirping noise. Mine is nothing like that. It sounds more like rattling plastic.

I'm going to make an appointment in the next week or so to have it looked at.

Thanks.

I had the exact same issue with my 2010 2LT/RS. I had the blower motor replaced 3 times, and it still made the noise. Mine is a early production 2010, and I was told that sine the Camaro's release, the blower motor has been redesigned by the supplier 3 times. The most recent design was implemented into the production line about a month ago.

I have yet to find a fix, as every time I take it to the dealer, they claim that cannot hear anything, or that its normal. Yet all the 2011 models I've driven do not make the noise at all.

Best of luck.

I called the dealer to make an appointment and to my surprise, they already knew about the problem. The service manager told me that they had gone through the same scenario with another customer. They installed several units into the car and finally they got the newest revision in the car about two weeks back. They have one of the new fan motors in stock so I can expect a reasonably fast turn around. Stay tuned...

Of course the second I make an appt for this, the noise goes away and has not come back since the day I called for an appt. URGH. lol. Looks like I am going to have to wait until it comes back. I will certainly post in this thread if/when it returns.

My 2010 was making the standard GM blower motor bearing noise when on low speed, parked the car for the winter (didn't want it to see snow). I'm happy I waited until a better designed blower motor has been designed. I hate of the thought of the factory motor being cut out of the factory heater assembly :( .

Either way it is still going to be cut out. Plus... there is no guarantee that your Camaro will get the new blower motor, because some of the upgraded components are not always compatible with the earlier production models.

I ran into the same issue with my heated seats. The unit had been re-designed twice, but the dealer can only replace the part with an identical unit. The newer units would not work with the wiring.

Ive had a squeaking noise coming from my fans whenever they are turned on for a while now. Its really embarrassing to be honest...

Just had my AC compressor replaced, waiting until I have a break so I can bring it in for this problem also...sigh...
