CTS-V break upgrade
What are we talking for cost on all 4 rotors, calipers, pads and lines (parts and labor)? Thanks great write up. Seems like it would make sense. Not really happy with the stock breaks... takes too long to slow down at high speeds.

The only thing you need to upgrade are the fronts. You can get all new calipers, rotors, brake lines, & hardware for ~$1100 if you shop around. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348133 Obviously there is some flexibility on the price as to whether you paint/powdercoat the front calipers, go with different rotors (I like the Brake Performance slotted/dimpled rotors for $265, PN #RB-62128), or do any modifications with the rears (change rotors, paint/powdercoat calipers, upgrade rear lines). I am looking at ~$1350 for mine, but I'm painting all 4 calipers, replacing all 4 rotors with the ones listed above (rears are a different part number), upgrading pads, changing to DOT4 fluid, and upgrading to stainless steel brake lines. I'm also doing the install myself. Install is relatively straight forward and you can do yourself, or you could pay to have a shop do it. You would have to call the shop to find out what they'll charge.

Let me know how it all works out when you are done with your upgrade. Sounds like it's a must for this car. Don't like the current brakes. Again, thank you for the info. |

The calipers in that link only come in silver or yellow. I've found that most yellows don't match my car, I'm not buying new rear calipers, and because I want all 4 calipers to match, I am essentially forced to paint. There are DIY paint kits for $40, so it's just easier to go that route.
It probably won't happen until Xmas before I do this simply because I'm letting the budget get caught up after this last spring's series of upgrades.

Nice... I hear ya on the budget... I probably won't get them done until the current ones need replaced. When and if you get around to it, you should make a video... would be a great post. Might consider doing them myself if you can make it look easy Thank you for all the info.

The last time I checked the Yellow or Silver Calipers are <$300 each on Amazon. If you want Red CTS-V Calipers be prepared to spend >$800 each.
It's like buying the 4 piston Brembo SS Caliper. Black is cheap (relatively speaking) The Red 1LE caliper was about $1000 each last time I looked. Red is the rarest color, therefore the most expensive.

Your not talking about stock cts pads, right? I got stock brembo pads for $160.

Track pads, was assuming if someone spent $$ on brakes it was going to the track. DTC70s are ~$315 Raybestos ST43 $400, there all close. Street pads are cheaper. I'm gathering parts right now, will also add brake ducts as well which is another $300.

I went with the Silver CTS-V calipers and the ZL1 rotors. I have a cheap set of pads for the street. I'll be glad to get this upgrade behind me. Next event is in Sept @ VIR. Will have it done before that.

DD with a little bit of short track or auto x go Hawk HP ceramics.
DD no track time get the Raybestos Pro Stop Ceramics. Cheap, quite, low dust. I run Hawk HP Ceramic. Or is it HPS? Something like that. Total track beast needs specific pads for track days. You would need to talk to someone who knows better than me. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
