Question for people who have turboed muscle cars
What type of wastegate did you guys use?
I'm trying to figure out if I can get a BoV that's as silent as possible so there's way someone can tell I have a turbo setup until I open the hood. Any company that makes something such as this? |

never owned a turbo'd muscle car, but my old 240sx was turbo'd, it ran a stock wastegate mounted to the turbo run thru the exhaust. My bov was vented to the atmospere, but with some tubing you can recirc those as well. If you have an open element air filter though, you can still hear it. Hiding the turbo spool whine will be tough....I loved hearing it, and others wouldn't mess with me when they heard it too..kept me out of trouble..lol

With the v8 howling, the spooling turbo will be easy to hide. I just don't want people to notice the the BoV sound as on some applications HKS BoV it sounds like a metal ping almost or like my stepdad said "Someone stomping down as hard as they can on a field mouse with steeltoe boots."

A COAT! (Sil Eighty if said slow and with a Japanese accent sounds like C-O-A-T so I call them coats like the jacket.) Sil 80. My favorite import ever (even if it's only a conversion). My bro's BoV was on his 94 300Zx TT. That thing was FAST! but he never took it to the track. Only drove it with his ricey friends with their 240 hatchs, civics, a few had STI's though. |

Man finally people in the 240 community nowadays hate on sil80's
sadly though I don't have that car anymore, it had an unfortunate meeting with the back bumper of a truck......twice(at 2 different times) heres more pics if you wanna see the whole thing.. photo album http://s113.photobucket.com/albums/n...%20old%20cars/ oh and I just thought about it..here she is in action..you can kinda hear the bov(warning tire killing ahead) Oh and I won't be doing that kind of stuff in my Camaro...I grew out of it after the 2 wrecks in a week(and then fatherhood) |

The TurboXS RFL has a loud "woosh" sound to it, not too noticable.
I do slightly resent the remarks on the HKS SSQ...of course I am a bit partial, it's what I ran on the Supra. I had my tuned to only have the slight squeek initially, then it wooshed. The other thing is that mine (like most single-turbo converted Supras) had lots of wastegate flutter, which sounded really neat. |

The flutter makes it sound like several smaller "woosh" sounds, kinda like the first one then several echos, right?

wastegate flutter is not a bad sound at all, I loved it when I'd get some flutter from the sheepdog not opening fast enough, I'm sorry to have offended about the ssqv, they way you said you had it set up i'm sure sounded alot better, I was just used to seeing a bunch of ricers in turbo civics with em(and the greddy) I apologize for the comment.

Hi matey
Just seen the PM. My 300zx is stock (well, other than wheels & exhaust). The turbos are pretty quiet....a slight whistle that's drowned out by the exhaust and almost no BOV "pop". |
