Talking Daily Driver

Just an honest question...

Does anyone Daily drive the ZL1?

I live in the DC metro area and have relatively few snow and Ice days...I would plan on putting on a good winter\all season tires for the colder months. Typically, during inclement weather, I work from home so braving the elements is not mandatory.

This is a $65k+ vehicle and I plan to use it...I don't understand the whole putting it away for winter thing... I do not intend to go snow plowing around town or going up to the mountains to go skiing but the vehicle should be reasonably sound to get around 95% time ~ snow/ice notwithstanding...

I'm asking because I'm considering the ZL1 versus getting another German vehicle when my lease is up in Feb. I noticed the majority of people on this forum have multiple cars for sunny days, rainy days, grocery shopping and weekends.

Is it crazy for ZL1 to be driven daily?

Drive it, but definitely change the tires.

I daily drive mine, but it’s being put away for winter. However, I am in NH. In my opinion, snow and ice are a no go due to power and wide tires.

Daily driver for me. I'm just south of you but will drive a backup Tahoe if there is any chance of snow. Grew up in Michigan and know how to drive in snow but my 98 SS camaro was completely unmanageable in even 1/2 an inch. This one won't see any snow.

I do daily drive mine.
But no ice and snow in the south....
Why is there a snow ice mode if you don’t drive it in winter?
Yes I agree , change the tires...

I daily drive my 18 ZL1 1LE - 5K miles so far.

IMHO: If you have to drive why not drive what you want.

At about 1,000 miles I swapped out the stock GYF1R3 tires for a set of same size Michelin Pilot Super Sport for daily driving - VERY HAPPY with them on the stock wheel. It took about 300 miles until they broke in and I typically run my air pressure 28-30PSI.

These tires are great on ZL1 20" rims and know they perform well on the vets too.

They perform well dry and in the rain but have not driven in the snow - In AZ really not much snow other than on the national weather channel

ZL1 1LE Stock size
305/30/19 Front
325/30/19 Rear

A cheaper option I tried on my 2012 ZL1 were the 20" BFG G-FORCE COMP-2 A/S
These are an all season tire and very reasonably priced - not as much dry grip as the MPSS but I did not hate them.

Hope this helps

Mine is my daily driver, although I live in AZ and it rains very little. These are great cars, but far from being collectible or something to put away and drive 1600 miles per year.

I saw my dad put very few miles on many muscle cars / sports cars when I was a kid and he would sell them for a couple thousand dollars more than the car someone had driven the wheels off. Enjoy it!

Daily...rain or shine. During winter, only on completely treated and clear roads.

I would daily drive mine, but my Tacoma would complain. But it could be easily be if it was my only vehicle.

Not crazy at all to daily drive. Just be willing to pay for fuel, watch for high-inclined driveways, and be clever with packing cargo. Otherwise, it functions like any other car...better than any other car.

Around here (Camaroland), a lot of people like their cars to stay pristine, and low miles. So if they're in a climate that experiences winters they opt for a second vehicle to keep the road rash/salt away from their baby.

I, myself, have a Chevy Sonic hatchback as a commuter/cargo vehicle. Because I don't mind it getting dirty or scuffed up, and it can get 44mpg...but I often take the ZL1 to work in the Spring, Summer, and Fall months because - well, why wouldn't you?!?

But before that, I thought exactly as you do: The car is amazing, why NOT drive it year-round? And I did just that with my 2014 SS 1LE. I put a set of OE wheels with winter tires on it, and it handled crappy weather better than many of the SUVs on the road.

I'd say go for it. Just be well-aware of the temperature limitations of the tires, for your own safety.
