Probably not a great deal at the outset, but if they keep that same price when the new powerplants come it will be a pretty good deal.

Speaking for myself, I never considered a GTO, not because of the price compared to the mustang, but because of the lazy body design. Its flat out boring. Period. Fast as all get out, well built....but to me it looks like a grand prix. I couldnt except that. Especially with a GTO tag.

Just another stang to me. Glad to see they came up with something original like interior ambient lighting.

Don't forget to add that track package to every Mustang you compare to an SS Camaro. Even then it'll have trouble....and the Mustang's comfort package (heated/power seats) is 'standard' on a 2SS Camaro...
So suddenly...prices level out, and it makes the Camaro look that much better: IRS (that was tuned on the Nurburgring), a tremendously better/more powerful drivetrain, and imo, sharper looks. |

Ambient lighting was an option on '08 Mustangs. Actually looks like the Camaro copied the Mustang idea on ambient lighting, and not the other way around. And now for 2010 the ambient lighting is standard equipment on the Mustang GT premium.

I think Ambient lighting was offerred on the 2008 Mustang. I bought an '07 and I remember seeing that as a change. In the '08s it was not like it will be in the camaro though, just in the footwells and around some of the center console bits.

Put bluntly, Track Package or not the GT is going to be slower in a straight line, the 3.73:1 gears will help but only so much and obviously not nearly enough to overcome the rather large difference in hp and tq. In terms of handling and braking, a Track Package equipped Mustang GT wont ride as well as a Camaro SS since IRS is inherently better here than SRA is for obvious reasons, but high tech, spec sheet, eye-candy aside ultimate handling numbers for the Mustang GT with the Track Package likely will be better than what the SS turns in so long as the road doesn't turn really bumpy, and for some that will make a difference.
Put simply, I think this all depends on where your hot buttons are. For those who want a V8 ponycar and for whom 300hp is enough, and particularly for whom price is a hot button, Mustang without Track Package is probably going to win out. For those who want more than 300hp but who don't want to drop the coin for a SRT8 Dodge or GT500.......Camaro has that locked until 2011. I'm just glad we only have to live with a Chevy hp advantage for one year this go 'round. |

I don't think it's fair to say lighted up pedals and cup holders are the same as the ambient lighting we're getting.
