GM SAE-certified the 2010 Camaro V6 at 304hp.

And yes it sounds like they are just rating the car higher now.

My guess is the 2010 was certified on 87 octane gas and the 2011 is rated on 91 or higher octane gas.

I bet once this all gets out and 2011's start showing up we'll see a thread started on here about someone with a 2010 saying something like" I was at the gas station the other day when a guy came up and ask "what motor you got?" ,when the op says" why a V-6", then the guy says" Is that a 2010 or 2011?" , op says" 2010" , guy says " man that sucks you got stuck with the low Hp one" .
I'll bet even enthusiasts will forget about 304 in a matter of 2 years. Let alone people on the street knowing the difference between the '10 or the '11.

No, things like that will stick around. At least with enthusiasts. I know like a metric ton of stupid 3rd and 4th gen things that dont matter anymore.

What is the big deal about HUD? My wifes 07 Grand prix GXP had it. After the novelty wore off, we never used it. Don't get me wrong, it's cool, but not something I would use. Glad to see the V6 with a 312 rating, Chevy didn't show all it's cards it looks like on that. Great move on Chevy's part.

Well if that's the case, why would gm go to the trouble to recertify the motor?
I tell you why. They knew what ford was up to with the mustang and held back the right #number so that when ford brought there car out they could one up them without any redesign at all. It's no different than what ford is doing with the 5.0l right now. If you think that motor only makes 412Hp I have some ocean front property for sale in nevada I'll sell to you cheap.

Those #'s get burnt into people's brains big time. That's pretty apparent after spending only ten minutes on this very site.

I will say that if GM is going to offer anything else up, especially performance wise, they need to make it known soon.

The mustang will be on sell very very shortly, this month. And if people are still in the decision making process then Chevy needs to give them a reason to wait for the 2011.

I believe you on GM knowing the v6 made more than 304, but from everything Ive read, the 5.0 is pretty tapped out. Ive heard that it has some variable timing that keeps it just below knocking. I dont know if thats verified though. But I also heard that it was dynoed on 91 ocatane which if what I heard before that is true, then it should adjust itself and pick up a few more hp. But thats if it was tested on 91. Just because they say its minimum recommened fuel is 91 doesnt mean they didnt use 93.

GM Probably used the certification from the CTS to advertise the HP in the Camaro, if you read his statement
Quote:
“The 304 horsepower in the 2010 Camaro was actually a conservative rating on our end,” said Tom Sutter, GM V-6 chief engineer. “But we knew already that this award-winning engine produced at least the amount of power we stated, but now we’ve gone the extra step in certifying the engine for this application and have verified an additional 8 horsepower.”
.. meaning it had not been certified for the Camaro as installed with it's lower restriction exhaust and possibly air intake.

not trying to be a dick or any thing, but isn't it a bit weird that you can afford a 50k car and then a twin turbo kit, but not a 100 dollar camera??

I find it more odd that you would own a car like that, but wouldn't want a camera to take pictures of it...
