Mike Wood squeezed a 6.6L Duramax diesel into is '94 Mustang for Hot Rod's 2008 Drag Week and won the diesel class.

With a 9.91@138mph.

And still knocked down 33mpg (look on page 2).

I'd take one of those new diesels over a tt v6 any day. As it has been said, weight is not that much of an issue, think iron block sbc. As it is right now, yall need to realize that a TT DOCH DI 3.6 v6 would weigh every bit as much or more than an aluminum block gen III/IV.

Not to mention that diesel is going to have the potential to have shitloads more of reliable power vs. a turbo v6.

I think most people are missing the point with this diesel. I highly doubt it will be used in vehicles like the Corvette and Camaro. It is designed more for every day vehicles (not to say people don't use their sports cars for that) like the Impala, G8, Malibu, CTS, etc. If GM starts using this diesel, and possibly V-6 variants of it, in most of their family oriented cars, they could easily surpass CAFE's 2020 goal of 35. Remember, CAFE stands for Corporate AVERAGE Fleet Economy. If they can use these engines to boost small cars and sedans to 45-50 mpg, and their light trucks to 30 mpg, that still leaves them playing room to keep LS3's in Camaros and Corvettes as outliers, which won't affect the AVERAGE very much.

But just to help out, I still hope they make a Direct Injection version for an LS4

Agreed, but 600 some ftlbs of torque with 30+ mpg in a Camaro is all sorts of win, and would help with the CAFE standards at the same time.

Finally...

Test drive was today. The sound of a remote mounted turbo diesel is uncomparable to anything.

Average MPG will be reported within 2 weeks.

UsedTaHaveA68, very good points!! What a great place this country would be with 35 mpg muscle cars, both gas and diesel. it would definately set the bar higher for the world auto market. Hopefully it will catch on. If people would just get over the whole diesel=bad argument. I am about to prove them all wrong.

That is TOOO sweet!! That's awesome you're going a different route with your car. How many hurdles did you end up jumping over to get that shoehorned in there? Can't wait to see some results!!

"hp sells cars, torque wins races"

Some thing interesting I read recently .

Same car to 2 very different motors .

Motor A ----300HP/300TQ gas

Or

Motor B ---- 265HP/425TQ diesel

One motor runs in the 1/4 mile @ 14.2 the other runs the 1/4 mile @13.5

Which one is faster ?

Its the motor with LESS TQ
Motor A 300HP/300TQ , Motor Trend April 2009 BMW 335D write up .
This is one compersion , you mileage may very , not valid in any of the 50 states .....

Btw that Diesel Camaro is freaking sick .
