They're saying the republicans aren't on board with the idea of bailing out the auto makers...
Let's hear their plan how the economy will work after GM fails. It will be an amusing story.

I know. I'm sick of these politicians saying if we bail out them then we need to bail out everyone.

OR, when someone says the auto makers have been making bad decisions. I mean, what the hell is that? It's not GM's fault because people can't afford to get new cars in this shit hole economy. They need to get off their high horses already and do something.

If GM goes under, Ford and Chrysler will not be far behind. All three share suppliers to some degree or another. The fall out from this would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000,000 to 6,000,000 jobs lost – VERY BAD NEIGHBORHOOD! This would make the Great Depression look like a tea party and it would take decades for our economy to recover. We as individuals can help the economy as we approach the holiday season by BUYING AMERICAN.

The way I see it is that GM just needs to keep the lights on until Obama get's control of things. With the Democrats controlling the White House, Senate and House of Reps, whatever Obama wants, he will get.

If GM goes under, it means:

-2.9 million jobs affected
-$100 billion in lost wages/salaried
-$100 billion is lost tax revenue for Washington
-Unemployment hits 10%

I hate to play the polotics game, but the Republicans have some good reasons for not wanting to bail these guys out. Personally, as much of supoprter of pure capitalism as I am, I tend to agree with the Dems that GM (and Ford, Chrysler) need to be kept afloat. The cost to save them is much less than the cost to lose them. And frankly, the mess they're in is in large part due to policies and legislation the government imposed.

GM will survive, whether it be by a government package or by bankruptcy.

They will have to do some sort of a bailout because if they don't we go all the way back to 1929 and everyone knows that is about as bad as it gets.

If GM goes down, someone else will buy them, its not like all those jobs will disappear. All those resources will be too big a bargain for a foreign automaker to avoid buying up. Survival of the fittest. Camaro could live on under another flag. What I DON'T want is the govt owning a piece of GM and telling them what to build, having an up/down say on new models, etc., sitting on all their board mtgs. Sounds like Russia--"Excellent presentation on the new 6th gen Camaro, Bob, now we just need to beg for the approval of the Government Automotive Minister...." Do you think Nancy Pelosi wants you driving a V8? These are the people who brought you CAFE. They would LOVE to get their dirty hands deeper into the auto industry to make it what THEY want. Consider the consequences of this either way.

Another thing to think about is even if the auto companies get some financial relief, how many people would be able to qualify and get a loan to purchase a car in this economy. Without the help of banks to free up more of their monies for loans that don't require a credit rating of 700 or over the auto companies would be doomed.
