Best Oil to quiet engine?

From what I understand, our cars are loud engines to begin with... And with the afm lifters it's a slight annoyance...

What my question is, is there another brand of oil that quiets the engine, while still performing as well as mobil 1? I hear alot of people recommending royal purple or amsoil... But will those oils make a difference in sound?

Thanks

I would like to say yes... but I'd be doubtful. Im sure to some degree it would quiet it down a hair but you'd still hear the noise i'd bet on it.

I've already done a search, and couldn't find anything... Does anyone have any insight into this question?

Not sure about the engine but I know for a fact RP in the trans and diff will definitely quiet down the gear and drivetrain noise inside the car. I have RP in everything so I can't say how much an effect it has in the engine since I don't really hear it much over the exhaust.

this is your answer. you wont listen to the slight noises your engine makes if your exhaust tone is a little louder : )

i find that lifter noise to be annoying also

but about 3 months ago i found a salution

onlycost me about $100

i took it to a shop and had them remove my mufflers and now i still hear the noises at idle if the hoods open but at wot (wide open throtle) or ftf (foot to floor) all i hear is the awsomeness of every thing i have ever dreamed of in a car comming to life and how sick (good sick not bad sick) it is

yea you could probly get a thicker oil and it would quiet it down a small bit but i wouldn't recomend useing any other oil than what the dealer recomends (void waranty and such

German Castrol has been a great LSx oil for years,, only certain stores still have it in stock,, read the back of the bottle and make sure where it is made

Somebody on here was saying GM came up with some new lifters for our L-99's and that they are much quieter.

That is correct, if anyone has excessive lifter chatter on a L99, GM recommends replacing with an upgraded AFM lifters.

OP can always check with dealership and let them know. There is a TSB somewhere on it.

Just popping in to say that a heavier weight oil would not be a good idea on an AFM car.
