Best rear-end for 2010 L99
Hello,
I'm a noob. My L99 has the stock 3.27 I believe in the rear end. I want to increase HP, so I was thinking of 3.91. But then after reading on this forum the 3.91 is a little heavy on the torque, so I would more thank likely smoke more often that I want. So I was looking at 3.70. I have 22" wheels in the summer. In the winter I use 19" Blizzaks (shoot me now for even running it in the winter). I'm hoping to remedy this by the end of summer with a beater car for the winter so I don't have to use the Camaro. Anyway, feedback is obviously appreciated. Your friend for life |

3.91 won't gain you hp, probably decrease in most cases if your just looking for dyno numbers. I just did my 3.91s and even the wife said car is fun to drive now

Gear will NOT gain you any hp, period. But it can help you get into your power range a little faster.

Like others have said, gears will not gain any horsepower, but you will feel the power you have quicker. Contrary to rontammy0 said, many people opt for 3.73 gears in a L99. The primary reason is if you plan on going with major power then you will not blow the tires off the car as regularly with 3.73 as you would with 3.91. That being said, rontammy0 is a person who actually has 3.91 gears in his car so you might put a little more faith in him than me because I'm still running the factory rear end all the way through.

Had 3.91's in my 2010 L99 since 2011. Lots of fun and more responsive driving on the street. Go for it!

Car will feel much torquier...you will also hit higher rpm's while cruising on the highway, hence lower your mpg's...City driving will be better in everyway

Dropped a half second and gained 3 mph on my quarter mile times just by swapping to 3.91s

Oh yeah? Well I can one up that. Not only did I drop half a second on my quarter mile times when I switched to 3.91's, but I also dropped a grand on new tires.
