Is the cover really needed

The engine looks so much better without the ugly black generic cover. If I leave it off will anything be affected???

It's on there for cosmetics only. If you want to take it off go ahead.

I was concerned about it maybe letting too much heat hit the hood and damaging the paint finish on the other side.

Nope. That's what the hood blanket is there for.

The engine cover serves as a sound-deadener...you may notice the engine bay is a little louder when you drive around. But nothing outrageous.

Well I plan on doing my own custom CAI but I don't know where to move the sensors/if all have to be retained.

What kind of paint did you use or was this a professional job? I have an IBM 1LT on the way, I wonder if it's possible to find matching IBM paint?

Rickray: Man I keep forgeting just how hideous those factory CAI really are...looks like your underhood plastic has the boils/mumps in comparison to an aftermarket CAI...thats gotta go!
