Muscle Car Review

Hey guys. I read some interesting info in the Muscle Car review magazine at 7-11 last night. The guys in the magazine said there will be 2 v6 engines and a couple v8 engine choices. What I found most interesting is they said the "Z-28" will have the LS3 with 400-450 HP and there is talk of a "Z-28"
550HP version also. They said that they can't tell us all the specifics cause GM wants to keep some things secret still. To me, it seems like Chevy will be going with the Z-28 as top dog. Have you guys seen this magazine in the stores yet?

Everyone say it together with me:

"Until it is publicly confirmed by GM, everything is just speculation, including what the magazines report as fact."

I do admit though, it does seem like all the rumors point to the Z28 as top dog. Anyway lets get this thread moved over to the general Camaro discussion section.

The rumors, and common opinon do point to the Z28 as being top...I don't buy it...but I don't haveany say in the matter, so I just keep my mouth shut .

What else did the review say? I hardly think that they wrote up a little piece on just the Z28 - come on give us the goods!

i don't like the z being the top model because it was never was the top model before. it was plain jane, rally sport package, z-28 and ss models, at least in the first gen's. the ss-396 was quicker than a z.

Are you talking drag race or true racing?

Z/28 was the original top model. SS was only faster in a straight line but the Z was the top of the line and built for road racing.

Damnn man, make it all seem like the Z28 is garbage.... I've killed 2 SS's in my day, of course my Z isn't stock, but it's the fact of the matter!

This sounds exactly like what was put out months ago. "and there will be supercharged version of the LS3 in the top dog Z28 pushing 550hp." Yup. All this was in a magazine printed a few (if not 6) months ago.

YES. It's 4:18am and I'm not looking for it. I'll find it later and merge the threads......unless someone else remembers off the bat where the mag article is. please...

I'm beginning to agree and hope that the top dog is the Z28. Whoever said "Any Chevy can be an SS, but only a Camaro can be a Z28" was right. I'd like to see Chevy make the more mainstream performance line be the SS, with cars built for hardcore driving/racing get their own "Z" lines, like the Z28 or the Corvette Z06.

I'm pretty sure that was Scott Settlemire. I'm sure a bunch of other people said it too. But, I'm pretty sure it was Scott that started it off.

I think that the Z28 will be top, but its about a 60/40 split on that. I can see it going either way. And of course, that all depends on what you think of for wha the top car would be. I can see there being a Z28 option on the base V8 similar to the Z51 package for corvettes, a performance package to increase the handling of the car plus some visuals marking it as the Z28. Then there would be a specific SS model that has the most powerful engine and badging, like the SRT's from dodge. I don't think that the Z28 will be like the Z06 in that it will not have the best of everything. That would be like having a SS-Z28 which would make alot of people go "WTF?"

AHHHH all the alpha-numeric names and abbreviations, they hurt my head.

I agree that Z28 needs to be more than just the best engine and highest trim level. Like the Z51 suspension on the Corvette, it should be totally geared towards performance and racing, while the SS might appeal to those who want the true top trim level, with tons of features, fast, handles well, like you said just like the SRT line for Chrysler and Dodge. The SS should be the best of all worlds, comfortable yet capable. The Z28 should be almost to the point where it couldn't be considered a daily driver. But just almost.
