For crying out loud everybody. Get the skip shift eliminator installed. It's cheap and you don't have to play around with fancy ideas on how to circumvent it. You're supposed to enjoy your car, not put up with that crap.
It is GM's way of meeting fuel efficiency requirements. BTW you are not lugging the engine if you gradually accelerate from 2000 RPM in fourth. Remember you have lots of torque down low unlike the small imports that need the RPMs to be kept high in order to stay in their narrow power band. Cheers. |

20mph, 5th gear, and full throttle...lugging. Don't do it.

Which is significantly different than 20 mph in 4th at ~20% throttle

I go 1st to 4th without letting out the clutch, then back to second with a sweet slam of the throttle. . I hate it when that happens. Just be concious that it might and keep it in 1st longer

Hey guys.
I have complained about this skip shift so often. Made me grind my gears once, I was soooo pissed. I drive BMW and Audi rentals while here in Germany, and these cars are always recommending a high gear that will put your RPM around 1k, like the Camaro. However, these cars don't know if you are climbing a hill or driving on a straight away. Long story short. GM made a mistake by taking some power away from the driver. You should only really shift from 1st to 4th if you are going down hill. Just my opinion. |

I would tend to believe that lug would be defined by GM as almost stalling the car. Using skip shift does not lug the engine.

It is so easy to avoid it really should be a non-issue. The only time I think about it is when someone is complaining. |

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Skip shift feature is an automatic issue not a manual issue. Engine lag cannot be produced with a manual unless you miss shift.

No, the skip shift is on the manual transmissions. It is a built in feature that at low speed when you shift from 1st it will guide itself into 4th gear.

OK now I'm confused after 500-700 miles of break-in loading the engine with 1st thru 3rd gear pulls to red-line I've NEVER experienced this.... I see you have an SS could it be solely on the SS M6?

Some people like to shift to 2nd gear instead... Yes it is/was easy for me to avoid but I like to shift at that point into the gear I want to. So for me "skip shift eliminator is SO needed"...

Unless mine is broken, it only prevents you from using second... Or maybe I was taking too long to shift... I always shifted to 3rd because I felt 4th was just too low rpm trying to go up a hill, even a small one...

That's what I'm saying. I always grab second gear. I guess if you have to shift at, what is it 12 to 15 mph, then yes I guess you will need it. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Good question. I do not know if the V6 manuals have the skip shift.
