In general there were alot of people on this site saying that the GT500 was going to be slower before the numbers came out for it. Most didn't think it could put the power to the ground. It is getting power to the ground and it's running about .5 sec faster in the 1/4 w/ 8+mph faster trap speeds. But it should....it's got 82HP on the ZL1 and it also weighs 300 lbs less.

For the most part, I've seen far more mustang forums talking crap about us and GM/Chevy than what goes on here.

Oil squirters are used to help cool the liners because of the heat generated from thinner walls. It's all very technical...trying to put it in layman's terms.
By liners you mean sleeves and no the squirters are not to keep sleeves cool (absent in the GT500) it is to keep pistons cool under the intense pressure and temp conditions they see. Ford is using PTWA in their blocks and it has proven to be very stout in the vr38dett and the late-model aluminum 5.4. The connecting rods will probably be the weakest point on the 5.8, not the block itself. They seem to be the weakest point on the 5.4s at least.

The dragstrip is, and always has been, about power to weight. Any car can be made to hook up. Anybody who thought the ZL1 would beat the Mustang in a stock for stock drag race is an idiot. The jury is still out in an "all in" track comparison between these two cars. We will have to wait and see. Stock v Stock Dragstrip clearly goes to the Mustang, as it should.
