The moral of the story is, I took my car to a dealership and no one took it for a joy ride and wrecked it, no one turned me away saying the work didnt need to be done, and I was greeted with professional service, and no issues. Seems there is nothing but horror stories in here about dealerships, so I thought I would share a good experience with one. Won't happen again, don't worry.

lol, I tell you I am glad to hear your good story, and I somewhat feel sorry for my last post. The reasons behind my seemily harsh words were because, I almost ran out the door to my dealership ready to Expect them to do a fluid free fluid change for me. I know it would have been my fault for reading into your post something that wasn't written into it in ink, but I was about to accidentally share in your $180.00 experience. lol best wishes.

Its good to hear a positive story. I trust my dealership, they have not done anything to earn mistrust. I place no personal value on others experience. Just like reading movie reviews. If the movie gets bad reviews I am sure to try to watch it as I look for other things in a movie other than what a reviewer looks for.

wow $180 for rear diff???? yikes. you could have bought a floor jack, drain pan, and fluid for that.

it does amaze me what delerships get away with. then again at like $95 hr + flat rate things get absurd cost wise real quick.

Just had my oil changed at the local dealer, and it cost me $79.99 (Mobil 1), so that'd imply changing the rear Diff fluid would cost $100. Probably a bit more work to drain and fill the rear, so $180 for both at the dealer sounds about what I'd expect.

Rear diff fluid is so easy to change its almost criminal. Fill plug & drain plug are easy access.

People get negative because sh** happens. You mean to tell me you don't have bad things happen to you and thus get paranoid about it like most people?

No arguments, in and out in about 2 hours. Good dealership. The didn't say anything about the root-fab intake either....

Glad everything went well. I'll probably do mine so I can become more familiar with my car.

How I take that is, if you are not going to be doing any kind of high performance track driving, then you don't need to change it.
Exactly! According to the owners manual the differential fluid only needs to be changed if you're going to race competitively.

Glad to hear the service at the dealership was great. I have a somewhat local dealership that always goes the extra mile for service....not just the sale. Also, on another note. I started to have the rear differential wine in my M6 at about 4,000 miles Called the dealer, they found the bulletin and replaced the rear according to the bulletin. There's another thread in hear about it somewhere. Keep an eye out for it. Only noticed when cold and tight turns. They drained it and filled it 3 more times. Issue fixed under warranty.

Don't remember ever stating I don't run my car at the track.

Having a dealer do the first one makes sense, if there is something wrong (metal shavings in the oil...etc...) it will be covered.

Do you not ever go above and beyond to take care of your $50k+ car? The manual is great, but it isn't gospel so to speak. There's nothing wrong with going a little bit more than what's expected. Ive been working on helicopters for over 20 years in the military and now as an FAA A&P/IA and when you take a little more pride and go a step further things tend to last a bit longer.

I had no idea a simple thread about a good experience at a dealership would turn into this.
