seems like all of you are talking about brembos but i have a 2LT and i had squeaking issues also.
i took it into the dealer and they mentioned something about a tab or something that was making the sound and they replaced the rear pads first when the sound was comming from the front. . . when i took it back they said since the sound is still there they will order new front pads also. by the way each time they had to order i had to wait almost a month for my dealer to get them. . . . well they got them and installed them but now 3 or 4 months later they are squealing again. . . . |

The squeal or screech can take time to develop.
I just hit 2,000 miles and I started hearing a light low speed screeching (under 10mph) a few dozen miles ago or so. :( I've been pretty gentle on the brakes, always doing very very light braking towards the end of my drive to let them cool off, never washed the car when the rotors were hot, so I don't think I warped the rotors. I'm kind of bummed because I really, really didn't want any brake squeal. It was nice until the last few days when I started noticing it. It's not THAT loud but still annoying. We'll see what happens as time goes on. Should I try doing some panic stops to seat the pads? |

Most Brembo's are prone to noise due to the somewhat aggressive metallic pads but there are ways to mitigate it.
1 - A ceramic pad will likely be quieter - but you reduce stopping power/feel and life. 2 - If the pad is not bedded well or mixed w/ other pad compounds thsi can increase noise. 3 - When metallic pads are cold and used gently they will run in abrasive mode. This can strip the transfer layer which can also increase noise. The roller skates are an after the fact band-aid that is likely to be only partly successful. If the conditions that cause squeal are present - they will squeal. |

It's not an easy question to answer in a short post.
But - Pads have a range of operating temperatures where they work as intended. Below that - which might be ambient or lower in the case of street pads - a more metallic pad will be fairly abrasive. As mentioned - this can strip the transfer layer off of the surface of the rotor. This can lead to or increase noise among other things. If you do a lot of slow/cold braking - then rebedding w/ some frequency is a good idea. Soem very well written articles are here - Jeff Ritter wrote them. http://www.essexparts.com/learning-c...cat/brake-pads -Ken |
