Track Day Prices
Hey guys I'm planning on doing a few track days a year and was trying to figure out how to get the best rates on track days. I've been doing track days on my bike and they usually run between $100-$150 but it looks like cars run around $300. Is this a pretty standard rate or can I do better. Oh I'm in middle Georgia, been looking at tracks in Atlanta, Savannah, and Birmingham AL.

Dude, look up the SCCA PDX events. It is all I will do because there is no point in paying double the cost for track time. If you are a novice and need an instructor it is just $150 for 4 20-minute sessions. If you have been signed off in another organization or get signed off at an SCCA PDX it is just $90 for the same 4 20-minute sessions. It makes buying track insurance more palatable compared to $300 + insurance. I got signed off after session 2 of my first event at Daytona but elected to have an instructor at Sebring because it was a new and difficult track.
This year I will run 3 PDX events at Sebring for $270, that is 12 20-minute sessions or 240 minutes of track time for under $300!!

The track itself governs a lot of the expense, Sebring, VIR, Mid Ohio, Watkins for example are pricey just to rent. If it is a pay to play organization that is for profit, it can range from $350-$500 for a weekend. Car clubs such as BMW, Porsche it is cheaper, 250-350. Could be wrong, but I bet there are more bikes in a session than cars. Normal weekend at the track with cars they break it up into 4 or 5 groups, 20~25 in a group, 4 run sessions a day.
Motivation to instruct, they wave instructor fees most of the time if not heavy discount. So if there are 25 students, and 25 instructors. That inflates things as well. But is the cheapest way to learn, stay out of trouble and have fun there is. Go to Skip Barber or Bondurant and it costs thousands and it is not in your car. |

Laguna Seca is notorious for having the highest cost for a track day. ButtonWillow and Willow springs tend to be on the cheaper end. I've gone to track days at Willow for $95 for the day including timing sometimes.

That's about what the Motorcycle track days run so that's more my price range. Road Atlanta, Roebling Road, and Barber seem to be on the higher end though. I'm going to try to get a couple of groups together to get some track time in though. I was looking at the SCCA PDX events and they were still pretty pricey. Guess I have to keep digging.

Okay I talked with the Regional director of the Atlanta region and the prices are a lot better after talking with him. I'm planning on joining Atlanta and Savannah region and doing about 4 track days this year. looks like it will run me around $200 - $250 for the track days combined and about @100 for national and regional dues. That's a lot more doable.

With HOD, you also get a lunch and some additional classroom instruction (for beginners) and they also do car control classes with figure 8, slalom, and stopping control (again for beginners).

No $$ required, just let him unpucker his sphincter every other session and listen. It is very gratifying watching a student learn and advance, that is the reward. The worst is a student that leaves no better than when they came. I've had students where if I didn't say brake every single lap, they wouldn't, or a spouse begged them into it and they don't want to be there. These are long days.
