Yeah, I agree with them the LS3 s/c'd will probably remain Corvette. I've been wrong before (just not often). It could find it's way into the Camaro, but I receed my previous post in this thread, and agree with Tag, the added "really-tough-stuff" parts in the LS9 will crank up the price too much for it to be Camaro-possible. SO look for a minor hp increase with the SS package (30-50).

If the SS is the top dog package. Not sure about the validity of the rumors that the 4th gen Z28's hp ratings were downplayed in order to make the SS package seem like a bigger gain. Hope that's not the case this generation

Now that you mention it, I have heard that the difference between Z28 and SS was almost inperceptible....(in the 4th gens)

The crazy thing is - that these engines can be tuned up/ or down, indefinitely! look at the G8: it uses a 6.0L engine, yet only puts out 362 hp!!?!? What ?....and why? when the LS2 used to put out 400...

The question stands, but we must step back and remember, that 362 hp is a lot of power...

EDIT: From now on, I'm speaking in the past tense with the LS7 and LS2...

I never said it wasn't possible to have the LS3 supercharged (or LSA) in the Camaro. I was just saying all the upgraded parts would make it cost THAT much more. It is possible...it is just more cash...

Are there any other differences to the 6.0L engine in the G8? Does it have different heads, cams, or intake? All those things could cause it to make less power per liter than the LS2.

When I opened up my latest edition of "Pontiac Performance" I was eventually assaulted by this:

(The buck-toothed beaver that is the G8)

I have to say I was dismayed to read this:
Quote:
G8 GT models raise the horsepower stakes with a uniquely configured 6.0-liter OHV small block V8 that pupms out a whopping 362 hp and nearly 400lb-ft of torque.
Excuse me, but WTF??!! The LS2 in my rebadged Holden Monaro puts out 400 hp @ 5200 rpm and 395 lb. -ft. of torque @ 4000 prm. As Rock36 asks, what can "cause it to make less power per liter…"

I like that bucktoothed beaver. I'm going to have to go and test drive one when they hit the dealers.

I like the G8 a lot also.

But I'll admit, that Lumina SS on the front page of GMInsidenews has an even more appealing look to me.

Wow! That actually reminds me of the Acura TL. That is a very, very appealing sedan. It has a more "up scale" look to it. About time, GM!!! GREAT JOB!

Yup - there are definitely more aggressive styin' cues to be had from the Lumina than the G8 beaver saying, "…duh."

I really don't think it's an LS2 in the G8, it's that other...what is it the L76 /or L98, or something like that.

And I'm sure that there are differences, such as heads...etc. The site didn't get into detail, and I didn't dig THAT far.

The G8 GT will have the L76.(L98 is an Australian engine) L76 is a Gen4 6.0L v8 with Active Fuel Management(V4 mode) and Variable Valve Timing. besides these differences(and the associated computrer tweaks that go with it) the biggest difference between the two that affects power output is the LS2 has 10.9:1 cr and the L76 has a significantly lower 9.65:1 cr.
