A post on price and production
I had made a post inside one of the 'ring time threads earlier and I see its been deleted without explination, perhaps I am dead on with my figures and its making some people nervous??
IMHO the difference in price between the ZL1 and 2SS is going to be roughly the same percentage difference as that between a 2012 Corvette GS with the 4LT package and a base model 2012 Corvette ZR1, ready?? , grab your calculators, go! 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Coupe $55,925 + 4LT Premium Equipment Group $9,495= $65420 2012 Corvette ZR1 $111,525 + 1ZR Base Equipment Group $0 = $111,525 and my theory on production is the target volume of ZL1s sold (out of total v8 Camaro production) is around the same percentage of 2011 Z06/ZR1 Corvette sales vs overall Corvette sales 2011 corvette sales TOTAL 2011 CORVETTE PRODUCTION: 13,596 2011 Z06 CORVETTE: 906 2011 ZR1 CORVETTE: 806 Again do your math The ZL1 will be a beast but will be obtainable only by those who can "pay to play" much like the Z06, ZR1 and CTS-V so bottom line dont be too quick to sell your SS's

I think your post got deleted in the other thread because it has nothing to do with that topic.
In regards to your theory, I don't think there is any way that the ZL1 is going to cost 70% more than an SS. While I don't think it will be cheap, I don't agree that it's going to be off-limits type pricing. I'm guessing mid $50k range. |

I agree with Deke although dealer markup will certainly effect it but I see it at the 52-53,899 fully loaded range 48500 base...
Really it's almost to affordable for what your getting.... We're looking at offering a Z28/ZL1 type of package and the suspension alone is 6k to match that of the ZL1 ...LOL Installed and tuned with a 427 we're looking at a 20k package but for that kind of money you can buy a new ZL1 just about.. so the car is truly a great deal at mid to low 50's.. anything under 50 is a steal... and especially when you consider they want 42k for a Volt |

The basis for thinking that the price ratio between the 4LT GS and the ZR1 would be the same as the price ratio between the 2SS and the ZL1 is what????? I don't see what the percentage price difference between trim levels in the Corvette line has to do with the percentage price difference.between trim levels in the Camaro line. Car prices are based on the actual cost of manufacturing vehicles, not on relative price difference percentages of other models.

I don't think I agree with some of the things that've been said in here....
IMHO...compare the prices between a CTS performance coupe and a 2LT Camaro coupe to determine the "Caddy tax" on an otherwise very similarly-equipped vehicle. Now apply that difference to the CTS-V and unknown ZL1... Factor in some extra goodies in terms of powertrain, consider it's a Chevy, and the competing GT500 is in the 50k range. ... So far as I've seen...that's the 'formula' that makes the most sense to me. And even then - it only leaves us with a guess...but an educated guess, rather than arbitrary dollar amounts based on perceived value. Which brings me to another point...it seems to me, reading the forum...people are assigning an incredible amount of value in the ZL1 based on the handful of performance figures and statistical data that we've been given. This is compared to the conversations earlier in the year where people maintained that a price tag of anything higher than $50k would be a complete and utter failure. If we were told 100% of the details and told to guess price...I'd imagine people would be guessing in the upper $60k's by the time the conversation was done. |

I suspect that GM had a target price for the ZL1 in mind when they designed it. That target price came from anticipated production volume (partially driven by EPA mileage targets), buyer demographics, and current competition pricing (mainly GT500).
So I doubt that the Corvette pricing factored into the calculations. But that's just my guess...

The SS was 30% redesigned for the ZL1
So 30% higher in price than the SS?

I for one can't wait to see the base MSRP for the ZL1. I just sold my e36 M3 to help fund my ZL1 goal. I won't sell my 2010 Camaro til I am 100% when to get the ZL1.
