When I went to my service advisor at my dealership and asked about mods you can do without messing up your warrenty, I told him what I wanted to do,, lowering springs,, CAI,K&N,,and a catback and he said I would be fine as long as I didn't mess with the cats or the ECM..My drivetrain warrenty would be fine as it was written. No tunes or poweradders or it is all out the door. The dealer even sells and installs whqat I wanted to do, but I can get what I need and do it myself, just the same.So I was told..

1.) Ask your dealer's service department what can be done without voiding your warranty.. have the dealer perform the work.

2.) go to a shop like Lingenfelter, who MODS cars and provides a 3 year/36000 mile warranty through them, as opposed to GM.

3.) Don't MOD it till after the warranty period is over.

4.) Mod it and pay *if* something happens.

I chose option #2.. and have had nothing but pure enjoyment with my car...

^^^THIS^^^

I've dealt with my dealership for years. They are mod friendly to a point. When the turbos on the the warranty went off. They still love to see my car and even ask me to bring it by every once in a while to show someone. But if she grenades it's all on me.

that's ok in two years go by a ZL1 and you can start all over and still have a warranty.

Your not really screwed. The mod you do has to directly effect what went wrong with the car. If you get your car tuned and your a/c goes you are still covered. Now if you throw a rod yea they wont cover that.

Where?

We've pretty much decided we're going to mod. Yeah, the powertrain warranty is 5 years/100,000 mi. - but do you really want to wait and drop thousands of dollars in mods on a car with 100,000 miles on it? At that point, the money would be better put to use saving up for your next car, don'tcha think?

Smart man! For what little you'll gain with a few bolt on's why even take a chance. They may cover it but there could always be a hassel involved as well. If you are concerned about warranty I would approach the dealer and ask their opinion and always get something in writing.

I was wondering how to get the most power out of my 2SS without voiding my warranty?
(assume the service manager is moderately strict about GM policies) if it matters

as far as I know CAI is okay
how about the VM Throttle Body?
Exhaust cutouts?

thanks,
426...427 if you fart in front of it...

Yes, That's as far as my mods will go! I have the Borla S axle back that I installed yesterday and am waiting on the CAI industries intake. These will not effect the warranty.
BTW...I am from Rochester NY and have transplanted myself to SC.

Get CF hood, trunk lid, lighter wheels/tires, and if you personally could lose weight ...do it. Will make it faster without voiding your powertrain warranty.

Run 94 octane and leave it at that. If you do mod then don't tell anyone and certainly don't post on the internet that you did.
