Hello,

So I got a question to ask everyone. So my car has 35% tint because I heard thats what the legal limit is. But since I work at a car wash I see hundreds of car passing there everyday and most cars I see have I think 20% window tint because its so dark you cant see inside at all. But wouldn't the police stop you for having such dark windows?

Im thinking about making my windows to 20% tint instead of 35% but you think i should? Also, what is your car tint %?

I prefer 20%. I find 5% to be too dark as far as visibility goes. 35% is too light. I've gotten 20% on several cars, and I've never been pulled over for it. It is illegal though.

No permits for tint. If you're in Cali look at this FAQ from the CHP site:http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/answers.html

Here is a site that states legal tint limits in all states, but it may not be totally up to date or accurate especially considering the CHP site states no ting on front windows is allowed. http://www.tintlaws.com/laws/CA/ Best thing to do is just search google "tint law <nameofstate>". And look for a site that ends in .GOV not some .com or private site/forum.

There will always be those with higher tints, but they run the risk of getting a ticket and that's on them.

When I had a truck in LV it had limo tint on it when i bought it. But LV cops tend to look the other way because it's so damn hot there.

Edit: a little more research showed SOME states will allow darker tints with a medical permit.

5% on the quarters and back, and 15% on the fronts. I was gonna do 5 all the way around, but if I had to drive at night I want to be able to see the look on the guy's face when I smoke his Mustang.

might've already been said, but legal limits are by state. for example, i think FL can go as dark as you want, but even here in HI we're only allowed 35%. BUT, we can also tint the windshield here, which is the only place i've heard of allowing this.

i think having your tint too dark isn't a moving violation, so you wouldn't be stopped for it. but count on the cop testing your tint, citing you, and possibly scraping it up while he's got you stopped for whatever else. i was cruising around for about 5 years in HI and VA with 17%, and didn't re-tint to 35% until i did my safety inspection this year and the place failed me.

Dark!! If you have it dark you run the risk of getting a ticket.
