I plan on getting the V6. I need an economy car for turning the odometer on my tame commute. If I didn't need an economy car, I'd only have my pickup. Since I do, I'm currently leasing a VW Rabbit. 3000 pounds, 170hp @ 5700, 177 lb-ft @ 4250. It's fast enough to be fun with a stick shift. If I could get something larger, more powerful, and rear wheel drive and still get 28mpg...hell yeah! Well, that ought to be what the V6 Camaro will be, right?
I can't afford the V8 purchase price, insurance, or gas, and the it sounds like the V6 will be plenty fast for my purposes. Edit: Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention...every V6 Camaro sold should help the overall efficiency of the Camaro line, making it easier for GM to deal with MPG requirements, allowing them to sell more V8s to others!

Currently Tuner companies are having a hard time tuning the DI 2.0L turbo engine because of the DI. With out a tune simple bolt on mods won't add any performance. If I can tune the DI V6 then I would seriesly consider it. If not then its a V8 engine all the way.

I'm leaning more towards the V6 then the V8 because of my age. I am 18 so the insurance for a v8 would rape me even more then I already am, and the fact that I couldn't afford one. The v6 however seems like a good possibility at 20k ish and not as high of an insurance premium, not to mention the better mileage. 300 horses is more then enough for me, its already on par with a mustang gt! plus if we get some bolt on mods or tuners 350Hp + will come soon enough

Oh I'll definitly be getting the Direct injected V6. I'm 20 going on 21 and have been driving a four banger for the last five years. Doubling my hp seems an adequate adjustment, almost trippling it seems excessive and dangerous. I attract enough attention from the law without driving like a lunatic.

The 3.6 would have to get better mpg than the LS1 did in the 02 Z-28, which was 28-29 on the highway if driven appropriately.
I do want a V8, but I do not require more HP than my 02 Z-28 had. Will the 300 hp 3.6 have any torque? Compared to the 300+ LS1? That is why a V8 may be necessary.

According to Cadillac.com's info about the CTS:
3.6L Direct Injection V6: 304 hp at 6400 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at 5200 rpm Of course, that doesn't show us a graph of the torque curve so it's not 100% meaningful, but it might be necessary to rev it up a little before you really get the power. Your '02 Z-28 was lighter than the new Camaro will be, and probably had a lower drag coefficient. With all the latest technology in this V6, it will probably keep up with the MPG you got in your '02.

The only way I would get the V6 is if the gas prices hit more than $5/gallon (87 octane). I have to have the feel, peroformance, and head knowledge of having a small block Chevy V8. Sorry guys, ...

The other part is when you first push on gas, you are hauling, no waiting for the revs to build....just touch the gas pedal/haul. I will 'consider' the V6, given $4+ gas, but I still hope for a V8, even if it is not the 'top dog'....I would like to see what my 300hp 5.3 would do in a vehicle smaller than the ex cab Sierra 4x4. I think it would be a good cheap base V8, and give us the sound and torque we want... Of course 'we' still need the LS3 400+hp Z-28 AND the 500hp to humiliate the ?competition?

I like the idea of a powerful V6 option, plus more even more powerful options.
As many have stated here, the V6 (any) will be the most produced/sold model, even as it was in 2002 and before with no hopes of 300hp. What did the V6 in 02 have? 200hp? The 3.6 will be a big step up.

Thanks to the Direct injection, and VVT on this baby - it's got one of the most flat torque curves I've ever seen: |
