I voted Z28 purely because I prefer that moniker to SS.

But whatever the base V8 is is what I'll end up in. (And would add the RS if it's appearance package.)

I hate to change gears so suddenly, but I think I'd like to try and sort out this Top-Dog mess, if you'll all have it. It sort of started in another thread, but it's more appropriate here.

This is what I've heard people saying, and generally settling with(don't agree with the naming, though):

For Launch

1: base V6
2: hi-po V6
3: SS V8. (i.e. sub-$30,000 L76 or LS3 version)

Later

(1-4).2 : Convertible versions
4: a GT-500 fighter ("probably" named Z28, spouting 500+ hp)

When I say "Top-Dog", or "Hi-Po"...I'm generally talking about number 3, you're "regular" V8. I call the monster, just that; either monster, or GT-500 fighter. (< That's the one I was referring to in my previous post).

I find that this differs from site to site, and we don't seem to have a consensous here. That's not a bad thing, in fact, it shows we realize that nothing final has been said about any of this - so why decide based on shadows and a breeze?

Anybody have thoughts? What have you heard, and how do you percieve these designations?

(NOTE: I do not want this to turn into another Z28 v. SS war. That's not why I posted this. I don't care which one you'd prefer to be top - I'd just like to hear what everyone's understanding of this is.)

I agree w/ your assessment of launch models. That probably will happen. But, hopefully, they get out the top models sooner. If not, well, I won't have purchased mine yet. So, I'll end up ok.

My guess is:

Launch
Base V6 - LS
Hi-Po V6 - LT or LTZ(appearance pkg)
V8 - SS

Later
Same LS,LT, LTZ and SS versions of Convertible
GT-500 fighter - Z-28

I generally see the 'top dog' as being the GT500 fighter since that would be the top camaro. Also, I could see that car being neither the Z28 nor SS, but something that we have tended to forget about in these SSvZ28 debates: the ZL1.

V-8 400-425hp

Later: V-8 500hp, maybe supercharged, SS

im affraid your goign to be right. look atthe c6 and when the z06 came out. it didnt come out till a year later. i really hate that this is how it is going to be. im really wanting the baddest camaro out there but i dont want to wait any more. im torn between waiting longer for the big camaro or just buying the base v8 loaded and doing my own mods.

Personally, I don't care which nameplate is the top spot. That being said, I just can't imagine the Z-28 not being available at launch. It's one of the most recognized names at GM. How about we name the top dog Z-28 SS and make everyone happy.

I DO hope it's called Z28, though - but, because of the style of the poll I voted both SS, and Z28. Because I would be absolutely ecstatic owning either.
