i am still having trouble figuring how the g8 gxp is $10,000 more expensive than a camaro. They have the same engine, and you would think that the camaro would be more expensive because its a coupe.
this makes me worry about the camaros build quality |

Pontiac and Buick have always been the higher end GM product. Doesn't mean they are better. They just think they are.

DON'T!!!!
The recent delay was, in fact, to make sure the Camaro's launch was THE MOST high-quality launch GM's ever done. This will be a VERY high-quality car. If not, I'll resign from the forums! The GXP, specifically has a number of things going against it in terms of price: #1; It comes standard with an Automatic. Generally...those cost more than manuals. #2; It comes standard with heated leather seating (it's loaded) #3; It's imported (shipping costs, etc) #4; It's the highest-end G8 there is. Exclusivity comes at a price. And, #5; It's a Pontiac, they've always been relatively more expensive. |

It's a different automotive world from the old days, as GM is painfully finding out now. There will come a time when GM will consist of Chevy and Cadillac, and that is ALL. True, a Chevy could still be a working man's car, but they will also be a broad line offering many different cars in many different price classes while Cadillac will be the premium line. The transformation is already ongoing, as there are reports that GM doesn't exactly know right now what to do with Pontiac, it's been all but confirmed in writing that Saab, Hummer, and Saturn are going to be axed, sold, or integrated into something else, and GM seems to be back and forth on Buick and GMC. GM is talking with dealers about cutting 500 by April and 2500 by next year. Only Chevy and Cadillac are certain to exist in a number of years. |

I don't think there is anything cheap about the new Camaro. $30K just to get my hands on a V8? Are you kidding?

The price of aluminum is way down and most of the power train is composed of that. As well some body parts.

No, not kidding; that is cheap for what you get- 400 or 426 HP depending. Too expensive? Then buy a V6 for $23k that has as much power, the same 300 HP, as the 4.6L V8 Mustang. You can't make a blanket statement that the V8 is too expensive when you're not even remotely comparing apples to apples.

Yep, I've noticed that trend with some other GM cars as well.

V8s were the standard back in the day. Now, they compete with 4-bangers for sales, and the 4-banger always wins at the pump and on the highway. Power is great when you don't have to pay for the fuel, but now you do. Plus, new V8s are far more technologically advanced than their predecessors. Their features aren't cheap. Also, compare a new car with the features of the old ones, and don't tell me you'd rather have a stripped classic because that has been my argument for months on here while everyone else was talking about ambient lighting, 4-pack gauges, and what they're going to do about a navigation system. People expect their cars to come with screens and blinking lights all over the place, and all of that wiring costs money. They aren't as cheap to build as they used to be.

i don't know why ppl complain about paying 35-36k for their 2ss? in canada mine priced out at 44k before any taxes/destination. so i'm expecting just shy of 50k....that sucks. but it'll be worth it.
