The pictures of the Victory Red on C5 does not do it justice.
They don't. The flat black SSX wheels against VR.....its gonna "pop"
if you get what Im saying. The contrast is way up there.
Its gonna look killer for sure.
And yes, it will "tie" everything in for more eye candy...
You have a good eye. Yup. Not sure why they are not drilled and cross-slotted..
but ya know what? We still aint seen the production car for sure YET.
Never can tell......

One thing important to note, even confirmed by my paint shop, is that there appears to be two different shades of Victory Red out there, even though they share the same color coding. When I bought my '11 VR convertible, it was parked right next to another VR convertible. One was slightly darker, the VR I'm used to seeing. The one we picked was the brighter one, it seemed to glow more.

When I had custom stripes painted on, they sprayed over some sections in the normal VR color, and it came out too dark (like the other VR). They had to get a PPG color match guy to come out and mix it, he mentioned there were some variations in that color.

My first car ('69 Camaro) was also red with black stripes.

Well I had a very happy day today.
I went down to the dealership to see the ABM SS/RS that was down there on trade in. Well it turns out I have actually had this color before in years prior.
Looking at ABM very close, I realized even though I wanted my ZL1 to be this color. (i know they discontinued ABM) This ABM is 98.9% as close to other camaros I painted in yester years. I painted a 1968 camaro 1982 Corvette Blue Bright Blue Metallic back in the mid 80's. I also painted a 92 RS this color in early 2000. The paint has called many different code names and paint descriptions. Also 1985/86 Iroc Blue, or Bright Blue Metallic.
It is like I said 98.9% the same or right on the money. I have had this color before. Know that being said, I don't wanna paint my ZL1 ABM after all. And since its not a continuation color, im gonna give up on the idea basically as I have had this color twice in years past. Very stunning, but I don't have to have it.

Then another thing happened. They had a 2010 also in victory red they had taken in. This sweet ride has ONLY 1400 miles on her. She is BRAND new.
Looks like the car was just clay bared. I had seen victory red so far and to me it has been "so" "so" with me. My choice since the ABM has been IOM.
I looked and looked back and forth, back and forth between both the ABM, the IOM, and the Victory Red. Here is what I discovered. I love the Orange.
BUT. There is something about the black on top of the red that makes the red simply "POP" if you know what I am saying. It is a killer combination.
I have had red camaros in the past. Quite a few in fact and I was simply bored with the red and did not want another red. It has been 14 years since I have had a red and black camaro though. I have discovered that I do not think the Orange and the Flat black are going to "POP" like the Red and Black do though. The IOM and Flat black is going to look nice however, its just not gonna take it over the edge. Maybe this is why the first ZL1 prototype at Chicago was red and black? It simply pops when it is cleaned up and detailed.
I revived something in me today. My first camaro was Red and Black.
This ZL1 I have decided is going to be changed from IOM to Victory red with black stripes. The only way I wont change it to red is if they drop VR altogether when they bring in the new and improved crystal red. (whatever the name is ) I made a change! I know I am going to be happy tickled shit pink that I did.
I made one more change. I decided that there are going to be times when I want a drink of soda, or a trip to Jack n the Box. I don't wanna worry about having not to eat or snack in the car. That is a terrible feeling if you can't fully enjoy the car when you take it for a spin. I wanna have a beverage if I get hot and need a drink. I also don't wanna have to worry if I spill a drink or bave a boo boo on the suede interior. i don't wanna have to worry about having a window cracked open during a texas spring shower. They pop up all the time around here. Don't wanna worry about getting a drop of water on the interior I might not be able to wipe off and get the spot completely out.
While I plan on keeping my ZL1 meticulous, I don't wanna have to worry about boo boos. They do happen, even with adults!
I wanna be able to take a dry cloth, wipe it off and go on with my own business not having to wonder..."dam.. I know I can see that spot still there but can others?" Know what I mean?

Getting the Zl1 now in leather option only. No suede for me. If the seat inserts are automatically suede, no worries as I would normally be tempted to spill a drink on the shifter boot area, or get the suede wheel nasty anyway. If I can order the car with no suede whatsoever, that is my plan, plus it should lower the cost of the car anyway somewhat.
On the subject of sunroof. My melon hit the roof every time!
Even after adjusting the seat! Dealer was kind and let me start the car, and play with the roof and open it and close it, and open it and close it to make 110% dang sure I don't want an optional sunroof. Sure, it is nice but I can live life without it.

So. Victory Red, No Sun roof, and No Suede for me.
Do I have my 6 digit number yet?
No one can doubt that you are doing you're homework on the ZL1 68RS. . An informed consumer is the best consumer. I saw a color similar to that on a new Gran Sport Corvette, it was very nice and it played well with the black trim on the car. But, it's not for me either. I wasn't sure where you were heading with the post, there certainly was some initial intrigue in the story but it had a happy ending! There's no such thing as doing too much research or in getting too much information. Keep up the good work!

...me too, I was thinking...no way..., not 68RS, ..it was rivetting to read, it is fascinating to see the amount of effort that is being put in on this ride from manufacturer down through the consumer level...

Someone's a lil' coocoo for coco puffs! LOL...but seriously write a book dude...HAHA
I did read your whole post so you gotta give me credit for pickin' at yah. I've had 3 camaros so far over the years though I think right now my fancy is for a white/black ZL1 unless news leaks out of a soon to be Z28. I miss the maroon on my 81 Z/28 but as for a repainted dark navy blue and aqua metallic blue...I would like to stick with a detailer's nightmare for a change and the only way to make it worse for water spots would be all black which is still a possibility. I have to say though get ready for pull-overs and tickets if you go with victory red because that will be a cop magnet color besides yellow and orange. Good Luck with the run down on what you want to order!

I would think that if you are concerned about spilling liquid onto your seats, that you would be much better of WITH the leather/ultra-suede combo.

GM calls the material ultra-suede because it is a synthetic material. It is not real leather.

It can be easily cleaned with a wet cloth with regular soap. My 2004 V has the same ultra-suede inserts and they are very easy to clean.

If you spill dark pop (or soda, as some call it) on cloth seats, you are going to have a big problem.

Nope. More worried about spilling a dark pop on ultra-suede inserts.
Not going cloth. I did not even know cloth has been discussed as a even possible an option?

Id rather be able to not even have to worry at all about this when the time comes... If I am the only one ordering without the suede maybe mine will be a little "different" than others....lol
Thanks for your post!

Sorry, I guess I didn't fully read your post and assumed your only option to no suede would be cloth.

Straight up leather seats are going to have you sliding all over the place. That is the main reason for the suede inserts, is to keep you planted during high G cornering. Without those, you are definitely going to want to invest in a CG Lock or harness. But, none of that is relevant if you don't plan in taking your ZL1 to the road course. (but if you don't, then you are buying the wrong car and not getting the full use out of it)

Not concerned either way as I do not plan on going around any track at 170 MPH and 6200 RPM anytime soon.
I think the suede inserts on the seat come automatically anyway I do not even know if you can get the seats without the inserts..... we probably will not know for sure until ordering time on this.
Either way I am good.

Great Choice!!
My pride and joy is VR Chevy Avalanche with a Black and Red theme. One thing for sure is that when VR is taken care of, it looks really really nice. Not enough people put the time and effort into polishing and waxing and eventaully the luster fades and it's just another red vehicle. You can really see the difference when it's polished up right. Good Call!!

Yup... agreed...
Mine shall be clean for sure...
It will get clay bar treatment the first couple of days or week of ownership.
Thanks for sharing.
