I think SS is the only way to, picture yourself on the day you get it. first you're all excited you've finally got a 2010, you jump in and at the first redlight going home you pull up next to a Rustang GT, he revs, you rev, the he crushes you. Wouldn't you feel like crap getting beat by a Ford. just go for the SS and pray for the blue paint.

Agreed with a previous poster.

An aftermarket custom paint job on an SS (and you could choose which color blue you want)...would be cheaper than buying a V6 and pumping it up with all kinds of aftermarket parts just to reach the same numbers.

If you're willing to settle for the V6, that's your deal. We're just trying to let you know that if you drive a V8, you may find it much harder to drop money on the V6 when you feel the performance difference. The V6 has respectable numbers, but in a car with relatively tame gearing that weighs 3750 pounds or so, it will not offer great performance. The suspension and brakes are even another story.

People thinking that because it has "300hp" it's a badass car haven't driven a sporty coupe in the last 4 years. And the difference between a V8 and a V6 is a ton of torque and that's why you're not going to beat mustangs.

Just be aware of what you're buying before you spend 25-30k on a V6. Or don't and just remember to never race a Mustang.

The Camaro V6 has good power but it's still the base model for a reason. The V8 will absolutely trounce it in every performance aspect.

And personally, I'll take the improved aerodynamics and aggressive looks of the SS front fascia any day.
The most concise perfect post in this thread.

I've perhaps been spoiled by V8 performance, so I disagree that the car is an acceptable performer. It'll be alright for what it is I guess, but when there's a model out there that can do everything it does a lot better, I'm not settling for a V6.

Don't kid yourself.
If you just want a new Camaro, go a head and get the V6.
But if your truely into performance spend the extra cash and get the V8 SS.

I've been around a while. I owned an LT1 Camaro and two LS1 Camaros. I've heard plenty of guys make this same arguement about buying the V6 model (to save money) and modifying it vs going with the V8. It never works out like they had hoped. Its always much easier (and better) to just get the V8 model to begin with. You'll be glad you did.

Get the V8. If you have to get the V6, it's no big deal. But, don't think you are going to mod it out and get the same performance out of it for bang for the buck. Won't happen.

With all the work and extra money, you might as well get the V8 and hold onto it.

I am re-reading all these old threads (since I have nothing to do anymore but wait), and I have come to the conclusion the F-body owners are the funnest group of people on the planet.

As far as this thread goes... You can mod your V6 until you are in debt, but... you will always be playing catch-up.

Here is my issue. I'm driving 100 in 65 and get pulled over...what will happen-

A-If I'm driving the SS I'm hoping the officer just want to look under the hood instead of giving me that $600.00 ticket?

B-If I'm driving the V-6 will I just get the ticket for trying to impress?

No quite the opposite depending on age of course, if you got the V-8 he will almost definitely give you a ticket for being an a**hole. Mostly because he wants the car and despises people with it, plus they profile like hell.

True. I'm sure that a v6 would satisfy for a couple of months, but once you start getting taken by Evos, WRXs and 350Zs, you are going to wish you had that v8.

You're also going to be getting your ass handed to you by Cobalt SS's...

Which it's now why it's either coming down between a 1SS or a 09 Cobalt SS Turbo for me...
