Results of how you broke in your new engine

I'm getting a second chance at breaking in the engine in my camaro. GM gave me a new engine. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172762 I broke mine in according to the manual but always thought that breaking it in harder might be more appropriate and would like to know from those of you that broke yours in hard how it's affected your engine. It might be too early to tell, but I get a second chance tomorrow. I don't want to know opinions like "drive it like you stole it", just would like to know if you've had problems or benefits that can be attributed to how you broke it in.

I have always broke engines in hard. Not full throttle 1/4 mile hard but don't baby it. Just no engine braking.

To all GM warranty people monitoring this site, "I broke mine in exactly like the owners manual said"

Once everything is warmed up, drive it like you stole it.

Your engine problems had nothing to do with breaking it in according to the manual.

Give it an easy 1k and then slap it around some. Make sure you drive in normal traffic during that first 1k. Up and down with the rpms, don't just drive on the highway to Nebraska and back and call it broken in.

Hope you have better luck this time around.

The first 1000 miles are the important time to break it in. So driving it easy the first 1000 wont do any good for break in. He needs to drive normal till its warmed up then drive it good and hard.

We build engines to put in our dirt track cars and the only break in period they get is warm up then hold at 3000 rpm to break in the camshaft then cool til ambient temperature. Once that is done the valves get readjusted and it is ready to rip on the track. My thoughts are if there is something wrong with the engine it is going to fail prematurely and that is it. So run it like you are going to drive it.

You do need engine braking. Helps seal the rings better.

BIG NO NO. Warm it up and drive moderately hard, after a 100 miles drive aggressive. No downshifting or engine braking, coast to a stop or on decel. I was at the track at 300 miles, car runs real strong at 1K miles and getting better.

I drove it normally like I always do.
Which means full throttle every now and then when I feel like it. Ocassionally shift over 3K RPM. But when driving normally I keep it under 2K.

Results, 13.4 @105 after only the second time at the track ever. BTW, it was in the 90's outside when I did this run.

Lots of opinions like I figured, but more of a consensus to drive it light to normal with varing speed for first 1K then anything goes! That's how I did it the first go around and car ran great, but only had 17K miles.
