Do you ever wish your Camaro was awd ?

In the case of if it were your only car ? My RWD G35s does okay in snow, up till 6 inches, past that it just doesnt work. In the period of it melting Kia Sorentos were running circles around me, and nearly all the guys in 4wd SUVs and pickup trucks were driving like deuches more than ever, riding my ass and cutting in front of me whenever possible(Dodge Ram 4x4 crew cab black with the grille guard comes to mind as one of those vehicles), and going through interesection at 40-50 mph in pure slush/snow to where they cant stop for redlights and so on. I almost bought an awd V8 S4, or now maybe even a newer Evo X, awd would just help so much in this weather. Awd just makes any car better all around, but RWD is so good when its sunny out, so have you ever wished your Camaro(or other performance car) was awd so you could take it out whenever ?

I have winter tires so I'm good. I would want AWD for the track. Teach those evos a lesson. Imagine putting 500+ horsepower on all 4 tires.

The camaro would be soooooo heavy with all wheel drive and even more so with any kind of sophisticated awd system. On top of that, you would put less power down. Not really a good idea for the camaro specifically imo. Something much lighter would see the benefits more.

Well then there really would be no traction limits/issues and therefore none of its power would be wasted on spinning tires, a 4,000 lb. 333-hp Audi S4 V6 can run 12 second 1/4 miles(12.8-12.9), imagine what a AWD 426-hp V8 Camaro SS would run... low-mid 12s ? 0-60 in the low 4s ? A Porsche 911 Turbo and the new 530-hp Nissan GTR can do 0-60 in the 2 seconds range(10 second 1/4 miles too), even down 100+ hp on the Corvette ZR1(which can't do 0-60 in the 2s), because of awd. If the ZR1 was awd it could run 10 second 1/4 miles and run 0-60 in the 2s, but it sticks with awd and 3s/11s in the 1/4 mile. Kind of jumping around on topic a bit, but awd can do wonders in the 1/4 mile, at the track, and in bad weather(it can get you out of places no 2wd, even with winter tires could, like steep driveways).

it wouldn't be because of the snow why i would want it. it would be for the drag. but ya the car would be heavier and thats not good. idk its something to think about for sure

It would put less power to the ground than it does now and weigh in the 4300 lb range as well as costing more money. I love awd, I mean look at what I drive, but there's a point where the weight isn't worth it, especially in a car that's already pretty heavy. You need a lot more than just awd to make a good awd car. The gtr suffers from a glass, piece of shit transmission that breaks if you launch the car like it should be launched. AWD has it's place, but the camaro wouldn't be that great of a car with awd if everything else stayed the same. Sure, it'd probably run low 12's or even high 11's with a hard launch, but it would get absolutely horrendous gas mileage, would probably handle no better because it would be so crazy heavy and would screw with the balance of the car, etc. AWD is great, but the drawbacks would be way too much on a camaro imo.

Yeah true, the Camaro SS would get 15/23 FE at most if it was awd. The GTR has a completely redesigned transmission and launch control for 2012, designed with a much stronger transmission and more efficient yet faster launch control in mind; then again you could still be right. Subaru WRX base 265-hp does 0-60 in 4.7, matching the Camaro SS, but you have to dump the clutch at redline in the Subie to match that.

Nah...Camaro's always been RWD.....put power to all four wheels and its no longer a Camaro...imo, anyways.

That said...if winter drivings your only concern -- get a good set of winter tires.
I think RWD is much more fun in all other scenarios...

Selective AWD would be nice.. Something like the push button 4WD I had on my Z71.. That would give the fun of RWD with the option of AWD when I wanted/needed it..

I wish my GT500 had an AWD option I would definitely pay 3k more to enjoy sub 3 second blasts to 60 mph if it had a bad ass dual clutch auto trans like the GT-R.

If I was rich I would have Livernois build a GT-R killing AWD CTS-V coupe with about 1k turbo charged whp. I would get chrome moly billet and heat treated shafts throughout the whole drive train with a 3600 stall converter and 2 step launch control so it will be staged at 3,500-4,000 rpm making 15 psi on the 2 step shooting 6 foot flames out the back and cutting 1.3 60 foots with DR's all around on my way to mid 9's.
