Autocross tires for DD - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have a 2012 SS that is my DD and I just ordered a set of 19X10 Forgestar wheels. I am looking for a 285/35 setup i can use everyday and still take auto-crossing once a month or so. I know I ought to just get a set of track tires, but that aint happening for a while. I know the Michelin Pilot SS seem to get good reviews, but kinda pricey. Anybody got another suggestion? I am in South Texas so winter is not really an issue.

I'm looking into square set up with GoodYear F1. Dont know if they make a 19 tho.

Nitto Invo's would be a good alternative, but the Michelin's are what I would go for.

In my mind there are only two choices in that size that will give you the grip for an autcross: The Michelin Pilot Super Sports as you mentioned, or the Bridgestone RE-11s. Pete from Pedders says the RE-11s are phenominal on this car because the stiff sidewall works well with the heavy Camaro. The Michelins will last longer, with the 300 treadwear rating, so that somewhat offsets their higher cost.

I gave him the Nitto Invo's as he was indicating the Michelin's price was high, Bridgestone's will be as much, so the Invo's are a cheaper option if price is an issue. The NT-05's are another cheaper option that work well for autocross

I agree on all points. The interesting thing is that the Super Sports have a harder compound than many performance tires and have the 300 treadwear rating, so they last longer while at the same time are one of the very best handling tires. So like you, my vote would be the Super Sports, followed closely by the RE-11s with their 200 treadwear rating (less $ but will wear more quickly).

Nine Ball, what would be the appropriate tire sizes for a 285 front and 305 rear in the Michelin Super Sport, 35 front 30 rear? I have 9.5" front and 10.5" rear F14 wheels bought from you. OP, I too have been recommended the Super Sports and plan on some track/autocross events next year! I have Nito Invos and I wasn't happy with their performance this year, not bad but could be better.

If this was purely for autocross, I'd say Yokohama AD08 or go with Toyo R888's or maybe even RE-11's which were discussed, but since this is your daily driver as well that changes things. The really sticky tires here tend to get really loud at the end of their life. R888's and the AD08's I've had are extremely loud when they're about done and I know that first hand. Haven't had experience with the Re-11's but I'm sure they're louder than Michelins at the end of their life.

I think the best tire here given your needs probably is that Michelin. I'd try to justify NT05's because they're so much less expensive, BUT they will wear out a lot quicker than the Michelins would.
