PLEASE DONT USE THAT HEAVY PEBBLED PLASTIC ON THE NEW CAMARO
I have been lurking on this forum for a long time and am a huge GM fan. I cant wait to take my first rip in a new Camaro again ( had a 2002 Ws6 Transam M6 when they killed off the Fbody, then a Corvette Z06 etc )
I hesitated to post this but I see that GM employees frequent this board and I LOVE the fbody / corvette and GM muscle cars in general and want them to succeed. So with that I ask you guys to please stop installing that heavy pebbled plastic in your vehicle interiors. It kills me to see all these new GM vehicles which have made such amazing quality advancements, have this poor quality plastic installed or worse yet , solid plastic dash tops and stamped one piece plastic door panels with no nice material insets. I do not know how much money is saved on each vehicle with these new interior trim pieces ( I am sure it is a cost issue ) but it can not be worth it. The older style , very lightly textured plastics were a better choice. A plastic like what is found on the sail panel and windshield post of 04 up Dodge Ram pickups is a great quality grade and a better choice IMO ( thick, durable and flexible ) Saving money on an area of the car where the consumer spends most of their time is a really bad idea. People can see this a mile away. This is material that they will be interacting with more than any other. We have been looking forward to a new Camaro ( actually fingers were crossed for a new WS6 Trans Am hint hint !! ) but the close up shots of the interior killed it for me. We also walked away from a Solstice for this same reason. Please stop installing this stuff ! As a note, the heavy pebble plastics can be found in Solstice, Silverado, Avalanche, Cobalt etc etc. You guys must know what I am talking about but I will try to post a picture. |

I will second this! Both my cars have that junk. The older style were way easier to clean and has seem to lasted well. my 88 chevy truck i got rid of for my 08 had the good kinda plastic and after 300k+ miles still looked like new!

Its not a heavy plastic like a lot of other late model GM's...the interior is very well executed IMHO.

See Malibu/Impala and apply to Camaro. This will be a New-Chevy-grade interior.
I've been in it, and even though it was still unfinished it was very nice. Soft in all the right places. And where plastic was used; it was done right. |

My fingers are crossed.
After working on a couple new challengers I gotta say GM must beat them in the interior and performance department because they are HOT looking cars . Challenger interior is poor though IMO. Nice seats but I thought the accent materials and plastics were poor. |

There were others who were lucky enough to sit in one also...maybe they can answer that question for you. I can tell you it's 100s of leaps and bounds better than the Cobalt. |

Anything within the last couple years. So if it hasn't changed since 2003, then yes.
(but I think it refreshed in 2005, didn't it?) |

I wish I had thought to bring up that issue a year ago. My CTS has that garbage and it totally sucks. You can't clean it. All you can do is blow it off every month with air if you're fortunate enough to have a heavy duty air compressor. I've had my CTS nearly two years and have never been able to clean it properly yet. Thank god the lease is done in March. Maybe a totally wet towel would clean it, but it would probably still leave residue that a clean dry towel would clean up if it does'nt lose particles from the rough texture.
Who dreamed this garbage up for a dash pad? FIRE HIM!

That doesn't say much. I think the Tata Nano will probably have better interior plastics than the Cobalt. I love my Cobalt but I'm not such a fan of the interior.

Hey... I like the interio in my Avalanche. I had a Malibu courtacy car once and it was nice. But the Dash etc. looked tough to clean. (not that I tried! lol) The interior of my Av serves it's purpose. Just the same I agree that the interior materials for a luxury car or sports car should be different as they serve a different purpose.
