What Blind Spots? SAE Recommended Mirror Adjustments

This article was printed in C&D several months ago. http://www.caranddriver.com/features..._spots-feature.

It basically says that the side-view mirrors should be adjusted outward, just until you can no longer see your Camaro's flanks. It took me a couple days to acclimate, but I can report that I have no rear blind sponts in traffic any more.

Fine adjustment is done on a multilane road. In the unlikely event that another driver overtakes you from the rear, fine tune your side mirrors so that the reflected image of his car shifts smoothly from your rearview mirror to your sideview mirror, and finally to your over-the-shoulder glance through the side window. You will be changing lanes with complete confidence that nobody is hiding in your ex-blindspot after a day or two driving on multi-lane roads.

This is a clear case of not needing three mirrors all showing you the same rear view. Put those small side mirrors to good use.

P.S., Yes, I am a member of the Safety Team at work, and the only one driving a '10 Camaro.

It is great advice. I used to hate driving when I first got my baby because of the huge blindspots. Since I read up on how to adjust the mirrors I have had no issues.

This is how all mirrors should be adjusted. No need to look at the side of your car. Unless it's really good looking.

Are you starting this again? This whole issue has been hashed and rehashed to death. Honestly, a dead horse has been beaten less. Let's skip it.

Exactly.

People just don't know how to properly set their side mirrors.

+1 +1

I've consistently read about the "blind spots" in the Camaro... every single time I've sat in one and adjusted the mirror and got the seat correct for my body, I was able to see everything perfectly fine.

People who complain about blind spots in their Camaro probably look over their shoulder when changing lanes, use their cell phone while driving, and don't have the side/rear view mirrors adjusted correctly. I never had an issue with blind spots on my Camaro. The mirrors offer plenty of sight when used and adjusted correctly.
