[Gizmag] Breakthrough promises $1.50/ gallon synthetic gasoline.

Quote:
UK-based Cella Energy has developed a synthetic fuel that could lead to US$1.50 per gallon gasoline. Apart from promising a future transportation fuel with a stable price regardless of oil prices, the fuel is hydrogen based and produces no carbon emissions when burned. The technology is based on complex hydrides, and has been developed over a four year top secret program at the prestigious Rutherford Appleton Laboratory near Oxford. Early indications are that the fuel can be used in existing internal combustion engined vehicles without engine modification.

Hopefully, they will get this to market. I hope the powers that be, do not try and squash this...

This is cool!! One of the major issues with hydrogen has been the storage concern.

There are so many alternative fuels out there it's crazy....we just need and environment that facilitates their rapid and widespread development.

Personally, I'm a big fan of algae-based "green crude".

Yeah and green algae will make $0.75 gallon gasoline. I'll believe it when I see it.

You'll never see it unless you believe enough to pursue it. Well...not you, specifically...in general.

Ever see one of those near-futuristic movies...then time passes and then they become current and you kinda laugh about how they predicted wrong? Like when the Demolition Man character crashed the old 442 up through the floor of a futuristic Oldsmobile dealership? And now we know that could never happen in the future because Oldsmobile is dead.

And it was what, 2012 in "I am Legend"? At the time, I thought the 6+ dollar per gallon was a bit of a stretch. But apparently, it just might be one of those things that has a good chance to come true. Yikes.
