If this is the issue with the pressure release valve sticking in the oil pump, I only see it listed up to model year 2013. It could be that GM has not updated the PI yet.
#PIP4158G: Low Oil Pump Pressure Due To Sticking Oil Pressure Relief Valve - (Jun 10, 2013) Subject: Low Oil Pump Pressure Due To Sticking Oil Pressure Relief Valve Models: 2008-2009 Buick Lacrosse, Allure (Canada Only) 2007-2013 Cadillac CTS-V, Escalade 2007-2013 Chevrolet Avalanche, Corvette, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe 2010-2013 Chevrolet Camaro 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS 2007-2009 Chevrolet Impala SS, Trail Blazer 2009-2013 Chevrolet Colorado 2007-2013 GMC Envoy, Sierra, Yukon 2009-2013 GMC Canyon 2008-2010 Hummer H2 2008-2010 H3 Alpha 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP 2008-2010 Pontiac G8 GT 2007-2009 Saab 97x with the Following Aluminum V8 Engine RPOs: L76, L77, L92, L94, L99, L9H, LC9, LH6, LH8, LH9, LMG, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS7, LS9, LSA, LZ1 This PI was superseded to change the labor time information. Please discard PIP4158F. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern Some customers may complain of low oil pressure, no oil pressure, and/or engine noise, which may be the result of a sticking oil pump pressure relief valve. In some instances, this may occur intermittently if the valve frees up when the engine cools down. Recommendation/Instructions If SI diagnosis isolates low mechanical oil pressure at the oil filter housing and oil pressure sensor, replace the oil pump, flush the oil cooler lines (if equipped). Clean the inside of the oil pan, change the oil and filter, and re-evaluate the concern. Notice: If an engine noise is noticed after replacing the oil pump, follow the SI diagnosis and repair the engine as necessary. Warranty Information For vehicles repaired under warranty use: Labor Operation Description Labor Time 4066070 Oil Pump Replacement Use Published Labor Operation Time

I think I'm going to do a pump swap in the spring when I'm home again.
For the folks that have voided their warranty early (or when brand new) I look at changing out the pump as cheap insurance, at least regarding this issue.

WOW. Just WOW. If it's happening with such frequency, one would think they'd have a recall on this matter, and start changing the pump in new builds. I just can't picture this being cost effective for GM to repair/replace engines upon failure. That's kind of scary. This is basically telling me that my car can self-destruct with little to no warning. I pray nothing like this happens while I have my family in the car and we're cruising on the highway hundreds of miles from home..

When I was younger, anytime we rebuilt an engine for increased performance, my Father taught me to put in a new oil pump for the very reason you said....it was cheap insurance. You usually picked one that was a step up over the stock unit you had. I assumed it was still just the known thing to do. To me, this is a separate issue to the stock units failing.

Can it happen yes but unlikely to, especially If You have over a couple thousand miles. Usually when there bad you find out right away. There are cases of higher mileage failures too, but that's the same thing as anything else in your car going, you just never know. I would suggest a good oil like Amsoil with regular routine oil changes and for even more peace of mind just change the oil pump, get the melling unit 10296 , it's a 130 bucks shipped from autozone.Com and it is another couple hours labor installed if you don't do it yourself... but for under 300 bucks why not have complete peace of mind I say!! Funny talking with Charlie at RPM he says he uses the stock pump because he has had a lot of the melling units fail and burn up motors.

Find a thread with melling units failing, I can't find one! Then plug in stock oil pumps failing and then you will see the many threads. The stock oil pump isn't junk, it just has faulty parts to it that COULD cause a problem doesn't mean it will. I'll take the peace of mind of the much superior Melling unit. Check out this thread, read it, but if not at least read post #52. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=254409&page=3 |

I'd love to tell you what mine is, but it's in hibernation still.
Found a couple of threads though, probably even more:http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=219929 http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207823 |

Keep in mind: Those tracking their car should make sure they don't pick a higher flow oil pump, since it might cause oil starvation at long left turns.

Since this is a known issue, will GM fix it at no cost, if you are out of warranty?
They should, since it has been around a long time and they do not fix the flawed design. |

Just had this happen to me. Drove the car this morning to drop my son off at school, then drove my daughter to horse riding and shut the car off. Drove back home with my daughter and the car ran fine with no indication of any problems, and even had my oil temp and pressure showing on the DIC. Got home shut the car off ate breakfast came back out to run a quick errand about 15 minutes later fired it up threw it in reverse and instantly chimes start going off saying no oil pressure turn engine off. Shut engine off, check sensors to make sure something hasn't wiggled loose. Everything was still connected, couldn't find any leaks, oil was full. Pulled filler cap, started engine, yup no oil. Shut engine off called onstar and she is on her way to a dealership. Heres to hoping warranty picks this up.
