Thumbs down Damn blind spot!

I can't believe I'm googling a proper way to arrange side mirrors to get rid of a blind spot. I almost took out my car and a car next to me last night - totally my fault... annnnnnd we were the only ones on the road. I felt so badly.

I'd like to find my road driver trainer person guy and yell at him for teaching people improper ways of using their mirrors. He even had us NOT use the driver's side mirror. Nice huh?

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

The view is terrible. Can't see much through windshield and rear window is insane.

Took me about a week to get used to this, but it does work.

At first it was odd, but once you retrain yourself to use the mirrors this way it's very good. If a car is in my blindspot halfway for instance, the front half of their car is in my side mirror, and the back half is in the rear view mirror.

The rear view mirror is too big as well blocking some view. I bought a rear view camera, and plan to put in a thinner mirror from another GM product.

I honestly believe that full generations of drivers were taught to adjust our mirrors improperly.

CORRECT:
Lean your body toward the center of the car - adjust the passenger mirror so you barely see the back edge of your car.

Lean your body and touch your head on the driver's window - adjust the driver's mirror so you barely see the back edge of your car.

In VERY LIGHT traffic CAREFULLY test the setup so traffic appears in the side mirror before it disappears from the rearview / so that traffic appears in the window before it disappears from side mirror. Repeat for other side.

Tip: Once correct, you can also lean slightly from side to side as you check the side mirrors to see even more area.

This is how I adjust my mirrors. I also have a small blind-spot mirror on my passenger side mirror.

I have used my side mirrors for as long as I can remember. I even use them when turning while backing.

And you really don't need a drivers side mirror if you're driving the speed limit and you don't have a stiff neck, unless you are backing. So my driver side mirror is set to see straight back and not for lane changing.

If you are driving over 100 mph, and others around you are also, then set the driver mirror accordingly. But looking over your shoulder is really easy.

Once you adapt, you should have no problem.

Thats not it, its the ganster lean driving method where you can't even see what right in front of you

True blind spots are places a mirror can't see, like the front windshield pillars on my 3rd gen, you can hide a semi behind that 2in strip.

I always thought the best way to set your mirrors up was to have them set so when an object leaves your rearveiw, it shows up in your side veiw and vice versa. Once it leaves your side veiw it should be next to you in your window.
