V6 Major Motor Problems

9,900 miles and this morning I started hearing a LOUD ticking noise coming from the engine bay. Brought it in and the mechanics dont know yet but they said it could be a major problem. It made the noise in every gear around 2k RPMs. It definitely was not the direct injection either. Hopefully its just a loose flywheel. Regardless I cant believe I already have what could be a major problem at such low mileage.

1 oil change, BONE stock car driven mostly on the highway. I got 2k off the initial purchase, I'm seriously considering trading it up as long as I dont take more than a 2k hit.

UPDATE:

My cars been in the shop since the 16th and all they've told me so far is that they know the noise is coming from the motor and that it is probably a major issue...

Had a nice talk just now with CamaroDriver as well who is having a similar issue and it seems like I'm headed towards the same track as he is.

There's a guy on the G8 forum that had a similar noise with his cadillac. He was on the G8 board because the caddy had the same LY7 engine as our G8s do. Your's has the same block and a different upper so some parts may be the same.

His issue was the timing belt had stretched out and wrecked some stuff (I don't recall exactly what). He is having to do a full rebuild on the engine to fix it.

One issue is not enough to drop a car. Especially while you're still under full warranty. At least not imo...

Let them figure out what it is...they will....fix it. And off you go on your merry way.

I don't believe this V6 has a timing belt. It's a chain.

Ever hear of a part failing? It's under warranty so it's not going to cost you anything, unless the dealer determines you beat the hell out of it.

If you lose faith that easy you should sell it. Do you think million dollar super cars don't have parts that fail?

That's true ,but it seems to be a recurring theme with the V-6. I know the traverse is having more than it's fair share of problems also with the same motor.

Hope everything works out but that's def not a reason to drop a great car. Get it fixed for free then start thinking about things when the warranty runs out. You've only gotten one oil change so far? How many miles were on it when you first did it?

Op, I've got as much experience with the 3.6L as any. '04 SRX and '07 SRX.
My '04 with 1200 miles started to make loud whirring wounds. Camshafts machined incorrectly. Replaced under warranty all was well.
My '07 had to having the timing chain replaced. Done under warranty and no further problems.
My guess is timing belt or could be as bad as another guy here that had scored bearings.

Funny thing about the 3.6L and the timing chain. When the engine came out Cadillac told us how much better it was than the 3.2L 54 degree motor and that since it had timing chains instead of belts there wouldn't be any extra maintenance every 60K miles. I guess it hasn't exactly worked out that way.

9,900 miles and only one oil change!? Does that strike anyone else as odd? I mean I could understand if it was 30,000 miles to 39,900 miles with one oil change but during the first 10k, I would have expected more than one oil change

Anywho, hope it's nothing serious. Keep us posted.

You have a problem that could be serious, you also could have a problem that's not serious at all so let's slow down on the "this is the end of the Camaro world!" until you get an actual cause for the issue.
