Interesting article. . .

http://weblog.signonsandiego.com/web...et_camaro.html
"Chevrolet has released the first and only official photograph to date of the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro, while engineers were fine tuning aerodynamics and cooling efficiency.
Pre-production Camaros will be seen on U.S. and Australian roads as GM continues with testing and development, the company said in a press release. The car goes on sale in the fall."
The last line there caught my eye.
I know they're more than likely mistaken on the whole fall thing, but it would be nice, eh?

Yes it would be..... (sigh)

BUT! For such a fine piece of engineering? I can wait.

It's still quite possible. I only wish I could see the video that was posted up on this site a while ago where there was a GM exec talking about release dates for the Camaro. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER?!?! It was for some website interview...like a podcast thing. I'm pretty sure they were interviewing Ed Peper who said something to the effect of, "you can expect to see it on showroom floors at the end of 08 beginning of 09." ...but he said it was a possibility that it would be here end of 08.

Seeing how far along the Camaro is right now, it is possible if they hustled to get it out by fall. I'm just not sure that even though they could would they really break the release date that they've already stated? Wowing everybody by finishing it ahead of schedule could be good, but is it better than taking the extra time refining it? Maybe...Maybe not.

In reference to stovt001's comments about the Camaro's progress, back when I'd first heard about it being available to the public in the beginning of 2009, I was a bit surprised because up to that point, it seemed like it was coming along quite well. I think the camo-d prototypes had been photographed, and I thought that it was odd that production was still that far out.

A fall sale date would be just awesome. While I'd love to see the Camaro out as soon as possible, I won't complain if it needs more time to be perfected. Sell no Camaro before its time, and all that

Possibly Fall of 08?? That's not gonna be any help to me, I'd be driving right from to dealer to storage 'cause of winter coming. Na, I'll still wait till about beginning or mid March to order mine an recieve it by end of April.

the real question is: can Oshawa handle the extra output?

if this car were to go into production in fall of 2008, would the plant be ready to deliver the volume to its dealers? I have a feeling that the Oshawa plant is still being remodeled and will not be ready to ramp up to full steam until Jan. 2009... and I believe that this is the limiting factor.

And as Toyota learned with the new Tundra, plant problems can totally ruin an otherwise fine product. So even if the Camaro is ready but the factory is not, I'd rather them hold off.

Maybe they'll start taking orders in the fall of '08 and start delivery in early '09 to dealers.

The way I see it nothing has changed from what we have been told from the beginning. There will be a limited run produced in October for select dealers to demo and they will start the regular production run in the first quarter of 2009. I'd bet that you will be able to order your car in the fall, but I wouldn't expect to get one until the frist quarter of 2009.

Well even if it was release in the fall, I would still not be able to afford it by then. If I'm lucky I can afford to get one by next summer.

The plant should be capable of making as many Camaros as GM desires, since I don't know of any cars that will be produced along side the new Camaro, though I suspect that the G8 will get produced there as well. And I think that the first 30 Camaros that get built this october will be used to make sure that their new Flexline works as expected. 80Zedder should have some valuable insight on this, whether he can share is another question
