Just broke a bolt. Please help me find a new one! [PIC Included]

So, I suppose my torque wrench is out of whack. I was tightening the 4 10mm bolts that secure the throttle body to the intake manifold aaaaand, yeah. This happened. Can anyone give me the EXACT measurements for these bolts? And even more importantly, can anyone recommend a local store that has them? I'm having a friend pick them up for me since I won't be going anywhere.

What torque spec do you have for the TB bolts? If I remember it's not very big.

I had read in past posts that it was 9 ft/lbs. I was tightening them while the engine was warm if that makes a difference. I didn't even reach the `click` for the 9 ft/lb mark

What size range TQ wrench you using? You can't trust a wrench on the extreme ends of the scale. Example, if you're using a 0-100 lb/ft wrench, that's WAY too big.

On those smaller bolts with light torque, try 0-250 INCH-POUND tq wrench. The 9 lbs converts to 108 inch pounds. Just about in the middle of that scale.

Don't jack with hardware store bolts. Go get the right ones from GM. P/N 11519971.

You're welcome.

Searched around a little. Yes it looks like 6mm x 1.00 x 45mm UHL(underhead length). If not dealer, what about an auto parts store or hardware store as mentioned above. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARP-770-1006/

If I had a dollar for every time someone broke one of these tiny bolts by trying to torque them.

I've tightened thousands of these bolts and always do it hand tight.

The Throttle body isn't going to just fall off.

Well, the planets aligned and the auto shop had only 2 left (exactly how many I needed). While it wasn't the exact same (missing the flared head), the bolts are holding quite nicely. I have some official bolts on the way, so this should work out nicely. I'm really shocked that with the amount of torque applied I didn't crack the plastic housing.

Is this really a common thing? I don't feel *so* stupid now.
