that is a crazy amount of front surface area but it makes since. the cars we see with the most chips are the dodge chargers, mini coopers and camaros. because they are shaped like a truck in the front (flat nosed) with a ton of surface area. and most likely are always seen driving in the fastlane of the interstate
That probably includes wastage but at the same time the Camaro front end probably does have the surface area of a 4x8 sheet of plywood if you were to cut
It up and place the pieces flat on it.

Chargers dont have this problem and the bodies are very similar. I think the body shape is a copout. The problem is widespread. Either the paint or the plant. Besides mines not chipped, the paint is still soft after 4 years. I have like 3 chips after 30k,

No one will be able to convince Thumper otherwise, so why bother? He thinks his paint is crap, it's his problem. You could solve it with a respray of a custom color or something if it's that big of an issue.

That's fine that you think that, but this has been addressed multiple times, on some occasions by authorities on the matter, so even though it may not be an acceptable explanation to some - but it is the reality of the situation.

The charger is not close to the same body-style as the Camaro. It doesn't have quite the same sort of "slab" up front, and nowhere near the same sweeping doors into an exposed "gills" area. The car may look big and blocky - but you need to think in terms of aerodynamics, and the way air flows around surfaces when you compare vehicles shapes.

The shape and design of the body IS a major contributing factor, but not the only one, of paint chips on the Camaro.

Take some comfort in this: I have a 2010 Honda, and the chipping is FAR worse than on the Camaro. 24k miles on the Camaro, and only a couple small, paint chips. The headlights are cratered. Go figure. The Honda has so many chips I am repainting it this week..but the headlights are perfect. Same route, same speeds, same everything.

How can that be? It's a totally different shape from the Camaro!

Far more streamlined than the Camaro, but still far more chips. Lots of complaints about paint on them also.

as a former 2010 Camaro owner and a former 2011 Mustang 5.0 and currently a 2013 Mustang 5.0 owner i can honestly say from my experience that the camaro had worse paint than either of my mustangs and it wasnt even close. my camaro had many paint chips after 2 months and my 2011 mustang only had one chip after a year and 11000 miles. my 2013 has none and it's been 7 months. same roads and same type of driving.. I have a buddy who owns a camaro and he was complaining about the paint within 2 weeks of buying it..it's NOT the epa regs it's all GM.

Thats funny...I have the exact opposite experience. I have had many many mustangs ranging in years from 98 -2010.
I find the paint on my camaro to be far more superior to my mustangs.
The road rash and blemishes I got on every mustang ever owned was just ridiculous.
But then again maybe I feel this way cause my Camaro has 0 paint problems.
Just traded it yesterday though for a VR 1LE so hopefuuly I have the same luck with the new one in the paint department..

There's too many variables to determine what causes the chips. My father has a '11 rally yellow convertible with 20k miles and it is riddled with paint chips, both on the front of the vehicle, a-pillar, and rear quarters. I just got my '10 IOM and it has 22k miles on it, not one noticeable rock chip. No exaggeration. His car looks real bad once inspected up close. It's embarrassing that he paid over $40k for that car and in a year and a half it looks that way. To say that he is upset about it is an understatement. Take it back to the dealer and they look at you like you have three heads. "Well you drive the car, don't you?" Unreal! They get away with putting out an inferior product in some aspects I would say. Is there any help or recourse with this issue?
