Supercharged LT4 problems
Testing of the new Caddy CTSV with the supercharged LT4 has the same issues as the Zo6.......overheating and limp mode. There is no way that the LT4 is going to work in the ZL1 without some serious work esp at some of the speculated power output I read in this forum.

Overheating is a topic that the various C7 forums have a lot of...
I'd say it's a known issue and not isolated. I really don't get the gut driven rush to defend GM on this..holding their feet to the fire will result in improving the technology..which is needed. |

For all those that are worried about he 8L90, LT4 and LTG "issues" you don't have to buy one. There are other options. You also don't have to make mountains out of mole hills.

Looking at the front of the LT4 Z**, it looks like Team Camaro is taking cooling very seriously. I hope they get it right.

How hard is to add a larger HX and or radiator to these LT4 engines?

It might be hard to do on the Vette, but I think it will be an option for the Camaro and CTS-V.

Before you think they might not mention heat-soak in the article, they pointed out that both the Eco-burst and GT experienced heat-related performance hits. Dozens of bloggers (DigitalTrends, Autoblog, TechTimes, Slashgear etc) got seat time in the CTS-V with no mention of heat soak, limp mode, pulled timing etc. I had not heard of Boldride before seeing this thread. They started 4 years ago posting pics and vids of imports. Haven't seen much positive written about any domestic cars. The author mentions only subjective impressions (it felt slow) without recording any performance metrics or conducting tests of any kind. This is the first I've heard of any 2016 V going into limp mode from excessive heat. If I've missed something in previous write-ups, please point it out. I'm not saying it can't/won't happen, but this doesn't sound like a rampant problem in the V based on experience to date. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=426261&page=2

not that they will, but they should go twin turbo or maybe centrifugal supercharger to help with heat

Funny you should say twin turbo. GM has a few LT TT's there testing. I hear one is a shorter stroke 6.2 at around 5.4L. Think of a 6.2 with a 4.8 forged crank shaft. The stock LT4 heads would flow very good is only pushing 5.4L. Should do very well against F@&$'s Eco-boost 5.0 that's in the works.
But we will be the stuck the crappy LT4 , I will be ordering a 17' with the A8 BTW!!! |

I am not impressed at all with the Gen V LT4. If I were to get a Gen6 Camaro with the LT4 I would have Jeremy Formato of FasterProms do the work. He seems to make it happen. This will not happen, but I would rather see GM put the LS9 in the Gen6 Camaro ZL1-or Z/28 or what ever they name it.

GM isn't going to put the LS9 in a new model. It will now live on as a crate motor. The issue with the LT4 isn't the motor itself, but rather the small supercharger which was selected because of the low roof line on the C7. The poor cooling on the ZO6 is due to the tight engine compartment and front end layout. The Camaro doesn't have those restrictions, so I'm pretty sure they will be a none issue. I'm also going to guess they put a larger SC on the Camaro Z car to bump hp but more importantly to allow the SC to run at a lower speed, thus reducing heat. A pure guess on my part.
